08:30 AM The Inaugural Murphys Mutt March On April 29th Joins List Of Great Community Club Events
Murphys, CA...The first annual Murphys Mutt March will join the list of Community Club organized events when a bevy of canine companions and their doting owners gather on Saturday, April 29, at 8:30 a.m. “The Murphys area is home to so many wonderful four-footed-friends that we thought it would be a good idea to have an event where they could get together, have a good time socializing, and strut their stuff,” says Carol Roscelli, the newly elected president of the Murphys Community Club. “If you think your animal would be offended by being called a mutt, you can tell them it is simply a dog walk with a catchy title.”

The popular Murphys Community Park will be the assembly area. From there the participants will make their way down Algiers St. to Six Mile Road with a destination of Ironstone Vineyards. The marchers will enjoy this scenic area when it is at its lushest. At the turnaround, the route will take everyone back to the park for an award ceremony and the drawing for prizes. All dogs must be on leashes.

“Along the way you and your pooch will benefit from fresh country air, stimulating interaction and laughter, along with a little exercise,” states Roscelli. “All this and helping to support our wonderful park.”

The registration fee is ten dollars, which will include bottled water, dog biscuits, and a refuse receptacle. Participants can pre-register at Spence Ranch Feed & Supply, 1291 Hwy. 49, Altaville, or Next! Upscale Consignment, 220 Big Trees Rd., Murphys. You may also register at the event.

The Murphys Community Club is celebrating its 69th year of providing services and programs for the greater Murphys area. Its prime responsibility is the management and maintenance of the beautiful Murphys Community Park.

Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys. Membership in the Murphys Community Club is open to everyone and contributions are tax deductible. For further information, call 728-8093, or click on the Community Club link at visitmurphys.com.

"In Their Words - Vietnam" Book signing event April 29, 10 am to 11:30 am at the Bistro Espresso in Arnold. Come meet the author and some of the Vietnam veterans from the book.
In Their Words – Vietnam, is a collection of stories from those who served on the water, in the air, and on the ground in Vietnam from 1964 to 1975. Many are autobiographical, others are a collection of memories of the time they served, and one is posthumous, transcribed from letters and documents left to loved ones. These are their stories, the way they remember, the way they felt… in their words.

Independence Hall Community Center - History

Independence Hall Community Center, Arnold, California, was officially established in 1974. From its inception, the Hall has served as a non-profit, non-tax-supported community facility for the Ebbetts Pass area. Originally, the Hall was the Avery School, a one-room elementary school with a divider creating two classrooms.

The attendance area extended along California Highway 4 from Camp Connell nearly to Murphys. The first function to be held in the building was a school Christmas program in December, 1941. The school was rededicated in 1964 as Hazel Fisher Elementary School in honor of its first principal and teacher, Miss Hazel Fisher. Following construction of a new Hazel Fisher Elementary School, the original building was signed over to the Ebbetts Pass Wonderland Association and in recognition of our nation’s bicentennial was renamed Independence Hall. The Hall was dedicated and remains this area’s community center.

"Life after abuse means that you are capable of making healthy and empowering choices, connect with yourself, love yourself and dare to let other people into your heart again. Abuse can have many faces – sexual, physical, emotional, verbal and even energetic abuse. What they all have in common is that they leave hidden traces of unhealthy self-sabotaging programs within their victims; even long after the abuse has stopped and despite various therapies and treatments. In this free workshop you will experience how these blockages can be transformed into release that makes life after abuse a joyful and fulfilling reality." - Rita Harrison.
