Delaine Eastin to Speak at Calaveras Democrats Meeting Tonight
San Andreas, CA...California Gubernatorial Candidate Delaine Eastin will be the featured speaker at the Calaveras Democrats monthly meeting on November 13. Meeting time is 6:30 pm at the Calaveras County Public Library in San Andreas, with Eastin scheduled to speak at 6:45. It is recommended to arrive early, as seating is limited. “Calavera County may be small, but we are able to draw some big speakers. We are proud to offer Calaveras voters a chance to hear from Ms. Easton directly,” said Laura Lowell, chair of the Calaveras County Democratic Central Committee.
Eastin was elected as California’s first (and still only) woman Superintendent of Public Instruction. Prior to that Ms. Eastin was a school teacher, and served in the California State Assembly for the 18th district. Since 2008 Eastin has been a speaker and board member on issues of education policy, nutrition, and electing women to public office.
In addition, Eastin continues her work on the Chancellor's Women in STEM board at UC Davis, the Edible Schoolyard Advisory Board, Educate Our State (Chair), the Center for Nutrition Education Advisory Board at UC Davis (Chair), and the Yolo County Board for Court Appointed Student Advocates (CASA)
Delaine Eastin’s appearance will give local voters their first chance to meet one of their candidates for Governor. All voters are welcome to her speak, regardless of political affiliation.
The goal of Calaveras Democrats is to provide a forum for voter discussion of issues and candidates, and to educate the public on the values that bind all Calaveras County residents together.

Trip Through High Sierra Among SMUG’S November 14 Highlights
Arnold, CA...A trip through High Sierra, with stops at other Apple points of interest, will be the main topic at the Tuesday, November 14 meeting of the Sierra Macintosh Users Group (SMUG). The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the assembly room of the Ebbetts Pass Fire District, 1037 Blagen Rd., Arnold, just off Highway 4. This exploration was originally set for the October meeting but had to be delayed.
Seth Summersett, a professional computer programmer and one of SMUG’s major presenters, will lead the excursion. High Sierra is the recently released macOS operating system. Apple has also introduced new versions of the iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV. Along with exploring the features of each of these innovations, Summerset will give guidance on when or why users should upgrade.
A SMUG tradition, questions about any Apple product or application will be welcomed and encouraged.
SMUG meetings are designed for dues paying members but anyone is welcome to attend to see if they would like to join the group. SMUG was founded in 1995 and is a non-profit organization run completely by volunteers. It meets the second Tuesday of the month, January through November. Annual dues are $20 for an individual or couple payable at the first of the year. Members joining mid year need only pay $10 for 2017.
The organization exists to keep Apple users abreast of the latest developments and to address the nagging questions that arise from time to time. Its goal is to take the mystery out of computers and to enable members to take advantage of all the features their Mac products possess.
For more information visit the SMUG website at www.SierraMacintoshUsersGroup.org or call 795-3798 or 728-9012.
