All Day The 2019 Bear Valley Fat Tire Festival is October 5th
Bear Valley, CA...The Bear Valley Fat Tire Festival celebrates the awesome mountain bike trails and terrain in our backyard. This action-packed day is all about having fun with other mountain bike enthusiasts, riding great trails, and enjoying good food and brew. Festival participants can expect fun guided rides, exhilarating shuttle descents, lunch, games, and prizes. Basically, we are excited to share the Bear Valley trails with you.

Nestled in the heart of the Central Sierra between the Mokelumne and Carson-Iceberg Wilderness areas, Bear Valley Cross Country & Adventure Company is located on all-weather Highway 4 / Ebbetts Pass, a designated National Scenic Byway.

On December 1, 2018, Bear Valley Cross Country, Inc. was purchased by Bear Valley Adventure Company, Inc. (doing business as Bear Valley Cross Country and Adventure Company), a subsidiary of Bear Valley Mountain Cooperative. The new company has a passion for both winter and summer sports and adventures with guests of Bear Valley Cross Country & Adventure Company. Their mission is to promote and offer quality year 'round people-powered recreational opportunities to fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Bear Valley Cross Country is currently the only cross country ski area in California to be owned by a Cooperative and it's members. For information on becoming a member, please visit www.bvmcoop.org.

During the winter season, Bear Valley Cross Country boasts an extensive trail system of over 3,000 acres. Amenities include 35 trails carefully groomed for track, skate skiing and snowshoeing, ski school, the Meadow Cafe, a complete rental, demo and retail facility, 4 Trailside Huts, a sledding/tubing facility and a variety of special events and races. The elevation of 7,000 feet to 7,800 feet guarantees first to open (usually mid November) and last to close (usually mid April) status among Sierra cross country centers.

During the summer season, Bear Valley Cross Country converts to Bear Valley Adventure Company with bike, flatwater kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals, sales, and repair, retail clothing and accessories, mini-mart, fishing and camping supplies, a variety of special events and races, and is your connection to all of Bear Valley's summer adventures.

Bear Valley Village offers a variety of lodging options, all walking or skiing distance from the trails. From ski in, ski out cabin rentals to family friendly condos, and a classic ski lodge you will find a nice place to stay. Bear Valley is only 3 hours from many parts of the Bay Area. With no stop lights for over 35 miles and little traffic and no avalanche areas, Highway 4 (now a National Scenic Byway) is an easy driving route to your next winter recreation adventure.

Nearby Bear Valley Mountain Resort, one of California's finest mid-sized snow sport destinations, has all the amenities you come to expect at a modern area including 8 lifts and nearly 2,000 vertical feet on super scenic runs.

Murphys, CA...(Our Coverage of last year's event to get you ready to Stomp). The 25th Annual Calaveras Grape Stomp was another special day in Murphys Community Park. Previous Champions the Grapeful Dead came back stronger than ever after an injury kept them out of last year's stomp competition. Another great story was the Local father and son duo of Matt & Sewell Hatcher who stomped their way into third. For 25 years the Calaveras Grape Stomp has brought thousands of people to historic Downtown Murphys for a day of fun and entertainment the first Saturday in October! The annual community Grape Stomp has grown into the Largest and Oldest Grape Stomp Competition in California! Final Results of the 2018 25h Anniversary Calaveras Grape Stomp — Championship Stomp Grapeful Dead Dale Marcum Jennifer Marcum 20.08, Sushi & Waswabi Craig Wright Tamao Nakahara 19.47. During the stomp, teams of two, many with creative names and costumes, compete to collect the most juice out of 25 pounds of grapes in three-minute heats. Teams consist of a “stomper,” who stands in half a wine barrel with the grapes, and a “swabber, or mucker” who stands outside the barrel and reaches in to help flow the juice out of a drain spout.

Teams are encouraged to appear in costume and prizes are awarded based on originality, design and effort. Previous winners include the “Mucker Truckers“, “Grapeful Dead” and the “Cork Fungus Fairies”. The most anticipated heat of the day is the Winemakers Heat where local winemakers come out to compete in a friendly rivalry for most juice stomped and the Presidents Cup. Competitions are highly encouraged between businesses, sponsors, organizations and friends and pre-registration is strongly recommended as stomp competitions sell out well before the event.

Quality arts and crafts, antiques, handcrafted goods, jewelry, clothing, collectibles and food booths offer wares for sale in addition to Murphys’ multitude of one-of-a-kind specialty shops, restaurants and tasting rooms that line Main Street.

In addition, the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance holds a silent and live auction that includes donations from local and regional supporters such as Bear Valley Ski Resort, Saddlecreek Golf Resort, Murphys Historic Hotel and wine and winemaker event tickets from local wineries. All proceeds from the silent and live auction are distributed back to local community organizations and help fund the CWA scholarship funds.

A stroll down tree-lined Main Street transports visitors back to the mid-1800s with buildings bearing thick stone walls, iron shutters and pastoral gardens with white picket fences. Once you experience the charm and hospitality of Murphys, the historic “Queen of the Sierra”, you’ll want to come back again and again!

Rich in Gold Rush History, Murphys today is a vibrant, thriving community of over 2,000 residents. Many of the surrounding hillsides are rich with the fine wine grapes grown in our area. Murphys offers wineries, art galleries, live theater, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, charming hotels and B&B’s as well as a multitude of outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.

Murphys’ colorful past came alive in 1848 when John and Daniel Murphy established a trading post and gold mining operation in the area that is now their namesake. True entrepreneurs with the luck of the Irish, they were a part of the very first immigrant party – the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy families – to successfully bring wagons over the Sierra in 1844, paving the way for westward migration. John and Daniel’s cries of “Gold!” were among the first heard in California. It is reported that the brothers took two million dollars in gold ore from the Murphys Diggins in one year’s time, making them millionaires before the age of 25. The sizzling Gold Rush camp of Murphys also played host to President Grant, Mark Twain and Black Bart. And in some circles, to an even more famous chap – a young, inquisitive lad who literally changed the scientific world, Dr. Albert Michelson.

Our friendly residents invite you to revisit the past while exploring the “new” upscale Murphys. Guided walking tours of the town’s many historic buildings including the home of Albert Michelson, the first American Nobel Prize winner, are conducted every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., starting in front of the Old Timers Museum on Main Street.

07:00 PM - 09:00 PM Jimbo Mathus featuring Matt Patton (of Drive By Truckers) – Edgy Americana – new album release
Saturday October 5 @ 7:00 pm at the Sutter Creek Theatre

Jimbo Mathus has blazed a singular path as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and shaman for 40 years, recording and releasing more than 300 songs that are a testament to his hoodoo craftsmanship and to the sounds, sights and spirits of his inspirations in the deep South. His new album, Incinerator, which debuted is the epitome of that art — an incendiary reflection of his world in music. Mathus describes the 11 songs on Incinerator as “a huge tapestry of my experiences, hard work and dedication to living a creative life. I really took stock of what I do and why I do it … why I weave stories and dreams and visions I have into songs. And I tried to squeeze every bit of meaning out of every note and every word I wrote and recorded. It’s impossible to separate this album from me. This is who I am.” Bronson Tew and Drive-By Truckers bassist Matt Patton (with Mathus for the Sutter Creek Performance) handled production of Incinerator.

Outside the South, Mathus is likely known as the ringleader of the hyper-ragtime outfit Squirrel Nut Zippers. In his native Mississippi and throughout the South, however, Mathus is the prolific songwriter of born-in-the-bone Southern music, the torchbearer for Deep South mythology and culture. Think Delta highways, bowling-pin Budweisers and “innerplanetary honky-tonk” for the masses. Jimbo Mathus remains a rising-star powerhouse that feeds the soul. As Dickinson would say, ‘If you don’t like this, there is seriously something wrong with you.’”

In addition to producing albums for J.D. Wilkes, Shinyribs, Ironing Board Sam, and many others, Mathus has a discography as a solo artist and bandleader that’s more than 20 titles deep.

He is also a member of the South Memphis String Band, with Luther Dickinson and Alvin Youngblood Hart, and his many session credits include recordings with Buddy Guy, Samantha Fish, and Amy LaVere. These days, when Mathus is at home in Mississippi’s hill country and Delta, he also leads a local blues band called Dirty Crooks.

The award winning historic Sutter Creek Theatre is an intimate 215 seat former silent film theatre with superb sond. Beer and wine at the venue. Tickets and video at the web site Click Text Here
