Chapel in the Pines, in Arnold, will be holding open auditions on Saturday, Sept. 20th at the church from 9:30am-11am. This is for an upcoming original play to be performed during the Christmas season. We are looking for men and women between the ages of 25-40 that can sing and act. 10:00 AM Seminar - Going Batty
Presented by Dr. Dave Johnston.
Dave is an Associate Wildlife Ecologist at H.T. Harvey & Associates and a board member of the North American Society for Bat Research. Dave has spent over 20 years investigating impacts to bat populations from post construction wind and solar energy projects, urbanization, and transportation issues. He is the lead author for the California Bat Mitigation Techniques, Solutions, and Effectiveness for the State of California and for many other technical reports and scientific investigations. Dr. Johnston has on-going bat projects in Hawaii, California, Belize and Mexico. Shortly after the lecture he will lead us into the field to mist net and to observe bats in the wild.
All Seminars will be held in Jack Knight Hall at Calaveras Big Trees State Park from 10:00 am-12 noon There is a day-use fee to enter the Park. The seminars are free and open to the public. Pack a lunch, bring the family
11:00 AM Working on the Railroad -- A Celebration of Sierra Railway Workers
Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) is planning a festive and fun community celebration to recognize and honor the hundreds of current and former Sierra Railway, Sierra Railroad and Railtown 1897 SHP workers, their descendants and family members. The celebration will include special photographs, temporary exhibits throughout the Park, guest speakers, live music by the Black Irish Band, and much more. Designed to celebrate all the workers who built, maintained and operated the railroad, the special event will include a behind-the-scenes tour of the Historic Shops, Roundhouse, Warehouse and other areas with a focus on sharing information and interpretation about the workers who practiced their trades, their job duties and who they were as individuals and community members. The special event will also include a “Memory Wall” in the Carriage Room where Park visitors will be invited to post stories and photographs of past railroad workers that will become part of the permanent Park collection. Don’t miss the rail-related reunion!

Cost:
Park admission: $5 adults, $3 for youths ages 6-17, free for children 5 and under
Train rides: $15 adults, $8 youths ages 6-17, free for children 5 and under
