10:00 AM Court Case Conundrums Back at Columbia State Historic Park
Columbia, CA.—Join park staff and costumed volunteers in a live reenactment and solve a historical case during the interactive History’s Mysteries event four Saturdays this summer. This year’s mystery is set in November of 1858, when Columbia Special Officer Joel McDonald is shot and killed during an “undercover” operation by two suspected robbers. These men escape immediate arrest and the entire community is on the look-out for several days trying to identify and arrest them. After watching the incident occur, visitors will have the opportunity to interview the witnesses and participate in a trial to find out what exactly happened and who is responsible.

History’s Mysteries will occur on July 22rd, Aug 5th, Aug 19th and Sept 2nd, at 10:00 am each morning. Space is limited to 50 people. Reservations are highly recommended. $5/adults and $1/children. Due to the nature of this event, parents may find it is not appropriate for children under age 12. However, child tickets are available for $1 each. Each child under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. To purchase tickets, please visit the park museum or www.friendsofcolumbiashp.com to buy online.

For more information about this event or other events at Columbia State Historic Park, please contact the park office at 209-588-9128.

Independence Hall Community Center - History

Independence Hall Community Center, Arnold, California, was officially established in 1974. From its inception, the Hall has served as a non-profit, non-tax-supported community facility for the Ebbetts Pass area. Originally, the Hall was the Avery School, a one-room elementary school with a divider creating two classrooms.

The attendance area extended along California Highway 4 from Camp Connell nearly to Murphys. The first function to be held in the building was a school Christmas program in December, 1941. The school was rededicated in 1964 as Hazel Fisher Elementary School in honor of its first principal and teacher, Miss Hazel Fisher. Following construction of a new Hazel Fisher Elementary School, the original building was signed over to the Ebbetts Pass Wonderland Association and in recognition of our nation’s bicentennial was renamed Independence Hall. The Hall was dedicated and remains this area’s community center.

07:00 PM The John Jorgenson Quintet at Twisted Oak July 22nd
Vallecito, CA...Twisted Oak Winery is pleased to announce the next concert of our 2017 Twisted Folk Concert Series – The John Jorgenson Quintet. "The John Jorgenson Quintet are on the short list of our most requested artists to bring back," said winery owner Jeff Stai. “The John Jorgenson Quintet is known as one of the premier combos playing gypsy jazz – that’s in the style of such pioneering musicians as Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli - we're thrilled to have again!"

A yummy BBQ rib dinner with side salads will be available for purchase (vegetarian option available), along with yummy Twisted Oak wine, popcorn, and soft drinks. Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own picnics and non-alcoholic drinks, but we ask that no outside alcoholic beverages be brought in.

Seating at Twisted Folk concerts is outdoor festival style, first-come, first-served – bring a low beach-type chair or a blanket to sit up front, or a regular chair to sit farther back. We’re on top of a hill and there is always an evening breeze – it can get a little chilly after dark so please plan ahead.

The John Jorgenson Quintet

Music virtuoso John Jorgenson, known for his blistering guitar licks and mastery of a broad musical palette, has earned a reputation as a world-class musician and guitarist who has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan. In addition to acoustic and electric guitars, he is also regularly featured on the saxophone, clarinet, bouzouki, pedal steel, mandolin, vocals and has garnered recognition for contributing to numerous platinum-selling and GRAMMY-winning albums.

Currently touring as the John Jorgenson Quintet, Jorgenson creates a unique musical experience that equally enthralls the most discerning and the casual music fan. The group’s style has been called “gypsy jazz” after the dynamic string-driven swing created by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in 1930s Paris, but Jorgenson’s compositions draw in elements from Latin, Romanian, Classical, Rock and Greek music, so “21st Century World Music” is perhaps a more apt description.

What: Twisted Folk Concert Series Presents The John Jorgenson Quintet

Where: Twisted Oak Winery, 4280 Red Hill Rd at Hwy 4, Vallecito
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 – 7:45pm. Concertgoers admitted at about 6:45pm
