Independence Hall Community Center - History

Independence Hall Community Center, Arnold, California, was officially established in 1974. From its inception, the Hall has served as a non-profit, non-tax-supported community facility for the Ebbetts Pass area. Originally, the Hall was the Avery School, a one-room elementary school with a divider creating two classrooms.

The attendance area extended along California Highway 4 from Camp Connell nearly to Murphys. The first function to be held in the building was a school Christmas program in December, 1941. The school was rededicated in 1964 as Hazel Fisher Elementary School in honor of its first principal and teacher, Miss Hazel Fisher. Following construction of a new Hazel Fisher Elementary School, the original building was signed over to the Ebbetts Pass Wonderland Association and in recognition of our nation’s bicentennial was renamed Independence Hall. The Hall was dedicated and remains this area’s community center.

03:00 PM Violinist Corina Stoian & Local Pianist Ron Brickman Present A Concert Of Music At The Sutter Creek
Sutter Creek, CA...International concert violinist Corina Stoian and local pianist Ron Brickman present a concert of music for violin and piano at the Sutter Creek Theatre on Saturday, February 18, starting at 3 pm.

The concert marks the tenth anniversary of the Romanian-born Stoian’s American debut, which took place in February 2007 at the Sutter Creek Theatre with Ron Brickman at the piano. Since then, Stoian has thrilled local audiences many times with her outstanding virtuosity and thrilling interpretations. For the concert on February 18, the duo will perform the landmark “Kreutzer” sonata of Beethoven, the third sonata of Grieg, the Danse Macabre of Saint-Saëns, and Short Story of Gershwin.

Before her move to the United States, Stoian was a leading concert violinist in her native Romania and in Germany. She was for many years concertmaster of the Folk Chamber Orchestra in Essen, Germany and won several international prizes, leading to appearances in France, Switzerland, Israel, Bulgaria and Italy.
Since residing in the United States, besides her multiple appearances with the Friends of Music, she has performed as soloist with the Auburn, Camellia, Diablo
and Bear Valley Music Festival orchestras. Last spring, with her longtime partner Brickman, she performed the Concerto for Violin and Piano of Felix Mendelssohn with the Orchestra of the Mother Lode Friends of Music under the direction of Henrik Jul Hansen.

Those attending the concert are invited to a reception afterwards honoring Ms. Stoian’s 10-year contribution to the Friends of Music.

Tickets to the concert are $25 for adults and #$10 for children under 18. Tickets to the reception are $15 and must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Tickets may be purchased by sending a check to MLFM, PO Box 1362, Jackson, CA 95642 or at Mother Lode Music, Prospect Plaza in Martell. Tickets to the concert will also be available at the door.

For further information, call (209) 293-4227.

07:00 PM The 15th Annual, "Love The Forest Concert."
Murphys, CA...Mark your calendars for the 15th annual Love the Forest Concert at our New Location at the Outer Aisle in Murphys, Saturday, February 18, beginning at 7pm. A host of local musicians including Cantamos with Michela Macfarlane, plus The Bill Welles and the Distractions.

Cantamos: Michela Macfarlane and Cantamos highlight their musical dexterity by moving from arias, traditional Latin songs and musicals, to contemporary favorites. Their music moves seamlessly from English to Italian, Spanish to French, Portuguese to Hawaiian and back again. Michela Macfarlane spent ten years steeped exclusively in baroque music. To expand her singing world she moved to the realms of jazz, pop, and Latin sounds. She is still true to her operatic roots, but has grown as a performer. Michela is backed by Ron Schaner on (Bass and vocal), Fred Treece (Guitar and vocal), Jerry Solberg (Keyboards and vocal) and Ray Price (Drums).

Bill Welles: The Bill Welles’s Band playful and alluring combination of vocals, guitars, bass and drums creates an experience that lifts your spirits and takes you home to your heart. Guitar and vocal virtuoso Bill Welles gently yet powerfully moves his audiences with his beautiful blend of inspiring finger-picking and intimate vocals. Bill takes songs where they've never been before with passion and joy, plus his original material is poignant and magical. Bill Welles and Fred Treece alternate lead and rhythm guitar, while Ron Schaner and Ray Price provide a rich rhythm section. And with a variety of lead vocals with Fred and Ron providing harmonies throughout, The Bill Welles’s Band carries the listener home to the roots of rock and roll, folk and bluegrass with a vibrancy, depth and flat-out fun. Most definitely not to be missed!
