10:00 AM The 39th Annual Arnold "Independence Day Parade" is July 6th! Attend, Enter or Become a Sponsor!
Arnold, CA...The Greater Arnold Business Association (GABA) is sponsoring the 39th Annual "Independence Day Parade" in Arnold on Saturday, July 6th, 2019. This parade is one of the biggest draws of spectators, local and secondary home residents and tourists to our town, reaching 8 to 10,000 visitors for the day. We celebrate our independence day in conjunction with other civic community groups such as: Arnold Lions, Arnold Rotary, and the Ebbetts Pass Firefighters Association.

This year we find it necessary to step outside of our current role as the sole monetary supporter of this event and seek additional sponsorship to support: our efforts. The increase in Cal Trans Fees, insurance and the basis cost of providing this event have increased substantially. As a non-profit organization, it is difficult to increase revenue for marketing and still continue to provide this annual event.

There are two $500 Title Sponsorships Available & 4 $250 Sponsorships avaailable. Sponsors will receive poster recognition, radio identification, press release mentions & acknowledgements in our advertising and endorsements.

This is new territory for GABA, but we hope you will be able to extend support to our efforts to continue this wonderful day of recognition and patriotic appreciation. If you have any questions, or comments, please contact me at 209/768-6396 during the day and 209/795-5600 in the evenings.

Sincerely,
Linda Baker
Parade Chairperson

P.S..There are also several GABA Board Positions available. If you would like to join GABA in promoting the business community from Forest Meadows to Lake Alpine Join Us Today!
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Old Timers Museum Walking Tours Are Every Saturday at 10am.
Murphys, CA...Each Saturday morning the Old Timers Museum in Murphys offers a historical walking tour of Murphys. No reservation necessary. Meet at the Museum, 470 Main St, Murphys, across from the Hotel 10 am. Walk is 1-1/12 hours.

A stroll down tree-lined Main Street transports visitors back to the mid-1800s with buildings bearing thick stone walls, iron shutters and pastoral gardens with white picket fences. Once you experience the charm and hospitality of Murphys, the historic “Queen of the Sierra”, you’ll want to come back again and again!

Rich in Gold Rush History, Murphys today is a vibrant, thriving community of over 2,000 residents. Many of the surrounding hillsides are rich with the fine wine grapes grown in our area. Murphys offers wineries, art galleries, live theater, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, charming hotels and B&B’s as well as a multitude of outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.

Murphys’ colorful past came alive in 1848 when John and Daniel Murphy established a trading post and gold mining operation in the area that is now their namesake. True entrepreneurs with the luck of the Irish, they were a part of the very first immigrant party – the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy families – to successfully bring wagons over the Sierra in 1844, paving the way for westward migration. John and Daniel’s cries of “Gold!” were among the first heard in California. It is reported that the brothers took two million dollars in gold ore from the Murphys Diggins in one year’s time, making them millionaires before the age of 25. The sizzling Gold Rush camp of Murphys also played host to President Grant, Mark Twain and Black Bart. And in some circles, to an even more famous chap – a young, inquisitive lad who literally changed the scientific world, Dr. Albert Michelson.

Our friendly residents invite you to revisit the past while exploring the “new” upscale Murphys. Guided walking tours of the town’s many historic buildings including the home of Albert Michelson, the first American Nobel Prize winner, are conducted every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., starting in front of the Old Timers Museum on Main Street.
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Town Tours of Columbia State Historic Park Every Weekend!

07:00 PM The Sequoia Woods 2019 Music in The Mountains Summer Concert Series
Arnold, CA...Sequoia Woods Country Club has a complete summer music schedule to keep you entertained all summer long.  Sequoia Woods Country Club is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, roughly between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park, at an elevation of 4000 feet. The club house is open to the public, with a bar and lounge, dining room and seasonal deli. The beautiful setting can be enjoyed from indoors or outside on the deck, with a view down the main tree-lined golf fairway.

The bar serves food several evenings each week and the restaurant is open for dinner every weekend. The dinner menu has a perfect variety of traditional favorites, with creative and contemporary preparations, and our guests marvel at the quality of cuisine to be found here, in this little mountain hamlet. There is dancing in the lounge every Saturday night, with a DJ or frequent live bands. The deli opens its windows to the deck for an extended summer season, with tasty sandwiches, salads and hot specials. Special group events find our venue especially accommodating and fun. This is a truly lovely place to enjoy good food, good friends and good scenery.
07:00 PM "Moon Over Buffalo" Continues on at Murphys Creek Theatre
Murphys, CA...“The Show Must Go On!” In Murphys Creek Theatre’s 2019 summer production. In Ken Ludwig’s MOON OVER BUFFALO, all character stop at nothing to live up to that infamous phrase. The play follows George and Charlotte Hay, fading stage and film stars of the 1950s. At the moment, they're playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York… with only five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George's dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra, Mr. Hollywood himself, is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie Twilight of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George, Charlotte and their devoted company manager Paul Singer, everything that could go wrong does go wrong. The chaos is aided by a visit from their daughter, Roz, her clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they're actually performing. Adding more fuel to the comedic fire is Charlotte’s deaf, stage manager Mother who despises George with every fiber of her being.

Ken Ludwig is a two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright who has written over 26 plays and musicals, including 6 shows on Broadway and 7 in London's West End. His first Broadway play, Lend Me A Tenor, won two Tony Awards and was called "one of the classic comedies of the 20th century" by The Washington Post. His other awards include the Helen Hayes Award, the 2017 Samuel French Award for Sustained Excellence in the American Theatre, the Edgar Award for Best Mystery of the Year, and the Edwin Forrest Award for Contributions to the American Theater. His book How To Teach Your Children Shakespeare, published by Penguin/Random House, won the Falstaff Award for Best Shakespeare Book of the Year, and his essays are published by the Yale Review. Ken's best known works include Crazy For You (5 years on Broadway, Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical), Lend Me A Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo, The Game's Afoot, Baskerville, Sherwood, A Fox on the Fairway, and a stage version of Murder on the Orient Express, written expressly at the request of the Agatha Christie Estate. His work has been performed in over 30 countries in more than 20 languages, and is produced somewhere in the United States and abroad every night of the year.

The show is directed by MCT Artistic Director, Robbie Allen. He last directed MCT’s 2018 production of The Mousetrap, and was last seen onstage this year in The Whipping Man and Barefoot in the Park.

“I absolutely love this play,” says Allen, “It is hilarious from start to finish and the characters are incredibly rich and fun. The play relies heavily on situational and farcical comedy, while still delivering very human and relatable character arcs. The writing is phenomenal and makes my job easy.” He also adds, “The cast we’ve assembled is incredible and such a joy to work with.”

Moon Over Buffalo stars: Sid Marsh as George Hay, Elaine Saculla as Charlotte Hay, Todd Thomas as Paul Singer, Alyson Wren as Roz Hay, Sharon Perras as Ethel, Michael Crich as Richard, Charlie Cites as Eileen and Colten Minehart as Howard.

The play runs JUNE 21st – JULY 14th . Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm. Murphys Creek Theatre is located at
580 S. Algiers St. Murphys CA
