Parks & Recreation Commission Wants Input at Murphys Meeting on Janury 14, 2009
Murphys, CA....Anyone interested in the future of the parks and other recreation facilities and activities in Calaveras County is invited to attend a meeting to be held in the Native Sons Hall on Main St. in Murphys on Wednesday, January 14, 6:00 p.m. Organized by the county’s Recreation and Parks Commission, and aided by the Murphys Community Club, the gathering is designed to obtain public input to assist the commission in its efforts to create a Recreation Master Plan. This plan will be included as an element in the County Master Plan. Similar meetings are being held throughout the county......
The discussion will be chaired by commissioner Mason Goodale who states “As we produce our Recreation Master Plan we need to identify community needs for the next five to twenty years.
“We invite the public to share their current recreation experiences and what they envision for the future that would enhance the quality of life in District 4 and the rest of the county. Nothing is out of bounds, and ideas need not be planned out in any way.”
For this meeting the commission is particularly interested in the opinions of people who reside in Angels Camp, Vallecito, Douglas Flat, and Murphys. They seek comments from those who use Feeney Park, Murphys Community Park, and other District 4 recreational facilities. They want to hear from hikers, cyclists, equestrians, athletes, and those involved in youth sports, in addition to dog walkers, kite flyers, quilters, and families who enjoy a picnic.
The goal is to collect public input from as diverse a group as possible. All ages are encouraged to take part in the discussion.
The Calaveras Parks and Recreation Commission was established by the county to initiate the process of creating an efficient and adequately funded system of parks and recreational programs within the county. The commission plays a supporting role to local governments as well as non-profit and volunteer organizations that provide parks and programs that serve county residents.
