Columbia College International Film Series Begins January 12th
Films from Australia, India, Italy, Cuba, China, Sweden, Italy and Germany will be featured in the Columbia College international film series class this spring. Offered through the community education program, the class is scheduled on ten Mondays at 7:00 p.m. at Stage 3 Theatre in downtown Sonora. Films will have English subtitles and instructor Lloyd Schneider will lead discussions after each film. The viewing schedule...
Jan. 12---“Adventures, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” (Australia 1994)
Jan. 26---“Aparajito” (India 1956)
Feb. 9---“Bread and Chocolate” (Italy 1974)
Feb. 23---“Buena Vista Social Club” (Cuba, U.S. 1999)
Mar. 2---“Eat, Drink, Man, Woman” (China 1994)
Mar. 16---“Lesson in Love” (Sweden 1954)
Mar. 30---“The Postman” or “Il Postino” (Italy 1995)
Apr. 6---“Children of Paradise” (Germany 1945)
Apr. 20---“Tampopo” (Japan 1986)
Apr. 27---“Golden Door” (Italy 2006)
Cost of the class is $30 and registrations should be submitted for receipt by Jan. 5. Registration forms are located online at gocolumbia.edu/communityeducation/ communityeducation.htm and in the Columbia College spring 2009 class schedule, which is available at public libraries and other community locations.
From Dec. 24 through Jan. 1, college offices will be closed for winter break, but completed registration forms will continue to be accepted online, by mail or fax. Starting Jan. 2, in-person registrations will also be accepted at the college admissions and records office in Sonora at 588-5231, and at the Calaveras Center near the Frogtown Fairgrounds in Angels Camp at 588-5144.
