Motorcyclist Charged with Felony Evading a Peace officer and Outstanding Calaveras County Warrants
On October 26, 2008 at approximately 1:10am, Cpl. Vic Serrano and Deputy Alex Rivera were working a two-man patrol unit in the Jamestown CA area. They saw a motorcycle that ran a stop sign on the corner of Chicken Ranch Road and Hwy 108. They attempted to stop the motorcycle for the vehicle code violation. The motorcycle was heading westbound on Hwy 108, at a very high rate of speed. They activated their emergency lights and siren in an.....
attempt to make a traffic stop on the motorcycle. Serrano and Rivera had identified the driver as Scott Smith during a previous consensual contact, minutes before the pursuit.
The motorcycle failed to stop. Rivera and Serrano continued westbound on Hwy 108, attempting to keep up with the fleeing motorcycle. The motorcycle was reported to be travelling over 100 mph and passing vehicles on both the shoulder of the roadway and in the opposite lanes of traffic. The pursuit continued toward the Green Springs Road and the Rock River Road area. Rivera and Serrano were unable to keep up due to speeds and the terrain of the road.
Deputy Stuart and Sgt. Hunt arrived in the area to assist with locating the motorcycle. They later located the motorcycle at the intersection of Green Springs Road and LaGrange Road. The motorcycle appeared to have been set down and did not appear to be involved in a collision. The driver was not located at the scene. There was prescription narcotics located in a storage pouch, on the motorcycle.
While Units were searching the area, Smith arrived at the Sheriff’s Office. Units were sent to the Sheriff’s Office to contact Smith. Smith was detained by Sgt. Robin Hunt. Smith was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Calaveras County. Upon additional follow up, Smith was also booked for Felony evasion of a Peace Officer.
