Caltrans to Begin Culvert Replacements on Hwy 49

Tuolumne County, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin construction to replace 162 feet of culvert on State Route 49 between Sonora and Tuttletown. The project is scheduled to begin the week of August 26, 2024, and end in late September. It will require one-way traffic control between Flume Road and Mt. Brow Road with expected 5-10 minute delays. Residents in the area can expect intermittent construction noise.

To reduce the number of working days and impact on traffic, crews will work 24-hour shifts during the first week of construction. Daytime work will begin the week of September 2 and occur Mondays through Thursdays from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Fridays from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00.

Flaggers and changeable message signs will alert motorists to the closures and a pilot car will be used to guide motorists safely through the work zone.

Culverts are drainage systems underneath California’s Highway System that channel stormwater to prevent roadbed erosion and reduce the risk of flooding.  This estimated $221,890 project is being performed by Moyle Paving, Inc. of Jamestown, CA.

Schedules are subject to change depending on traffic incidents, weather, equipment and materials availability, and other construction-related issues.

We Build The Wall founder sentenced to 4 years in prison

NEW YORK (AP) — The co-founder of a fundraising group linked to Steve Bannon that promised to help Donald Trump construct a wall along the southern U.S. border was sentenced to four years and three months in prison on Wednesday for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from donors.

Brian Kolfage, a decorated Air Force veteran who lost both of his legs and an arm in the Iraq War, previously pleaded guilty for his role in siphoning donations from the We Build the Wall campaign.

A co-defendant, financier Andrew Badolato, was also sentenced to three years for aiding the effort. He had also pleaded guilty. A third man involved in siphoning funds from the wall project, Colorado businessman Tim Shea, won’t be sentenced until June.

Kolfage and Badolato were also ordered to pay $25 million in restitution to the victims.

Absent from the case was Bannon, Trump’s former top political adviser. He was initially arrested aboard a luxury yacht and faced federal fraud charges along with the other men, but Trump pardoned him during his final hours in office.
