Murphys Angels Lions Club Presents $2,000 to Help Those in Need This Christmas and Over $23,000 to Local Groups....Video of the Evening Enclosed

Murphys, CA....The Lions Hut in Murphys was filled again on Thursday night for another rousing meeting of the Murphys - Angels Lions Club. During recent years some of the service clubs memberships have been retreating a bit. The Murphys - Angels Lions however has been roaring ahead. They now boast almost 50 plus members and are up over last year. This club has been a huge benefit to the local area! During this year so far they have donated over $23,000 to local groups including the Sports Complex at Bret Harte, The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum and many more. Thursday night's recipient was "Friends of Murphys". This group has provided a world class free Christmas Dinner in Murphys for years. The Friends of Murphys is led by Tim Folendorf and Ray Malerbi and usually 50+ volunteers that last year fed over 750 people on Christmas....

Lions President Paul Turounet Presenting a Check to Tim Folendorf and Ray Malerbi & Lions Governor Pat Gillum (In Blue) with Silver Star Winners Bill Schwoerer, Phyllis Turounet & Jim Fraguero

This year donations have been down and the group's coffers were a little thin before the Lions stepped in with $2,000 to help.

The MA Lions President Paul Turounet presented Tim & Ray with the check after feeding them a great steak & potato dinner. About that dinner...every time we have had the pleasure to visit the Lions they seem to really know how to have a good time. The meals they throw for their meetings are a site to behold.

On Thursday it was Steak & Baked Potatoes, Fruit, Salad, & Bread. For Desert you had Homemade Fresh Berry Cobbler & Ice Cream. Drink choices included soft drinks, coffee, almost anything you could want from the bar.

The main speaker on Thursday night was Lions Governor Pat Casey-Gillum. She gave the group a rousing pep talk on the benefit of the Lions. We have video of the presentation below and almost an hour of video that includes her speech and also the Triple Star Awards she presented to three outstanding members of the local club.

All of us in the community owe the Lions great big Thank You for the work they do locally for their community.
