On Nov. 5, a DeYoung Museum bus trip is scheduled for their two special displays: Asian-American Modern Art from 1900 to 1990 and an Yves Saint Laurent fashion exhibit. Of particular note are sculptures, drawings and installations by Maya Lin, who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Among the museum’s other collections are American sculpture and decorative art, African art and more than 1,000 paintings representing a broad spectrum of American art from colonial times through the 20th century.

This show explores the rich cultural heritage of ancient Afghanistan from the Bronze Age (2500 BCE) through the rise of trade along the Silk Road in the first century CE. Strategically located on the commercial routes between China and India in the East and Europe in the West, Afghanistan was at the crossroads of civilizations in Central Asia. The trip fee of $50 covers bus transportation and museum entrance only. Lunches can be purchased in the museum café or at a nearby restaurant. Registration deadline is Dec. 10. The bus leaves at 8:00 a.m. and returns at 8:00 p.m.
If San Francisco is not your style, then take advantage of a bus excursion to Sacramento to tour the Governor’s Mansion and Towe Auto Museum on Dec. 3. Sacramento’s Governor’s Mansion served as the residence of 13 California governors between 1903 and 1967. After lunch on your own in Old Sacramento, you’ll visit the Towe Auto Museum to see 170 vintage automobiles. Trip fee of $40 covers bus transportation, plus admission to the mansion and museum. The bus leaves at 8:00 a.m. and returns at 8:00 p.m. Register by Nov. 5 for this trip.
The college bus leaves from and returns to the Junction Shopping Center in East Sonora for all excursions. Interested persons can register in person in the campus admissions office or at the Calaveras Center in Angels Camp.
