Calaveras County Sheriff's Department has Been Awarded a Grant from ABC for $26,543
Calaveras County, CA....For the second consecutive year the Calaveras County Sheriffs Department has been awarded a grant from the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The $26,543 grant award will provide funding for personnel costs and equipment used in the enforcement of alcohol related problems in the county.....
During the previous year an emphasis was put on dealing with problems related to underage alcohol consumption and adults providing alcohol to minors. From the number of citations and or arrests generated during the first year it clearly shows that Calaveras County has a significant amount of adults who will furnish; whether through purchasing or providing alcohol to minors.
Although it is great news that we have received the funds from the grant from ABC, what we observed through are sting operations is that we have a problem with adults who will provide alcohol to our young people of the county.
Continued efforts of monitoring stores and drinking establishments to verify that they are in compliance with the terms of their ABC license will continue. We have found that for the most part are licensees in the county do a very good job of following the terms of their perspective license agreement with ABC, but what has been disturbing is that at any given time in Calaveras County we have people who will provide alcohol to minors, and some of our decoys have been as young as 15 years old.
The additional money from the Alcohol Beverage Control agency will enable the
Sheriff s Department to provide the staffing to continue operations in an effort to reduce associated problems related to alcohol consumption. We want the word to get out that if you have a young person approach you and ask you to purchase alcohol for you there is a good chance that you are either going to be cited, or you could be going to jail.
Individuals who are convicted of this violation are fined $1,000.00 and receive 72 hours of community service.
