Calaveras County District One Candidates Square Off ~With Full Video By John Hamilton
San Andreas, CA...District One Supervisor Candidates Zerrall McDaniiel & Gary Tofanelli answered questions last night on the issues facing them as Candidates for Supervisor. This debate took place in the Metropolitian in San Andreas. Questions ranged from how would you vote on Trinitas, how would you make County Government more efficient to how do you feel about a San Andreas Bypass. The Candidates even had a sharp exchange or two on campaign funds in what has been a very amiable campaign so far...
The Campaigns have traded jabs on who is contributing to each campaign. Zerrall has maintained that she is only accepting contributions from individuals and is proud of each and every one that has supported her. Candidate Tofanelli countered that while he is accepting contributions from businesses he will not show favoritism. He also had questions about a couple of campaign mailers & "inkind" money.
The Calaveras Enterprise sponsored this debate. Editor Buzz Eggleston did a nice job moderating the event and keeping the pace moving. About 50 people attended the event at the Met last night.
We have complete raw video of the event. On political meetings we try to edit as little as possible so that you can see how questions were answered and also in what context they were answered.
We applaud all the candidates for caring enough to spend the time and effort necessary to compete for public office. They certainly couldn't be in it for the money. When the final totals are in much more will be spent even on these local races than could ever be made on the job.
Fewer than 50 votes separated Zerrall & Gary in June. Gary came out victorious in that round and we will have to see who the victor will be in November in this hard fought race down the stretch.
