The 2nd Annual "Mr. Frog's Wild Ride" A Bicycle Tour of the Calaveras Foothills To Benefit Feeney Park Will Take Place on Sunday October 19th

Calaveras County, CA...."Mr. Frog's Wild Ride, a bicycle tour of the Calaveras foothills featuring 50K and 100K routes, is back! On Sunday October 19th the ride, a fundraiser for Feeney Park in Murphys, will bring 200 riders to the backroads of the county to enjoy the fall scenery......

MR. FROG'S WILD 100K RIDE is challenging, with a total climb of 8,300
feet over steep ridges and into deep canyons, past vineyards and through sweeping, open meadows. This 63+ mile route follows back roads through historic towns, including the gold-mine town of Sheep Ranch, where you will be rewarded for surviving the first portion of this challenge with a rest stop at the historic Pioneer Hotel. Then leave the open-range sheep of Sheep Ranch to continue your day of cycling discovery. The variety is remarkable: for example, a stretch beside a creek bed in a thick incense cedar forest is closely followed by a steep chaparral descent with sweeping views over a series of ranges
and into the Central Valley.

MR. FROG'S WILD 50K RIDE has its own challenges: its total climb is 2,500 feet, with some steep hills. Like the 100k ride, the 50K ride has more than its share of historic barns, vineyards, cattle, creek side stretches and sweeping views. Ride this 30-mile route and you will have a fine idea of why cyclists want to live in Calaveras County, with its great mix of varied rural back roads and historic communities.

Everyone from kids to grandparents are welcome to join in on the fun whether riding or not. Spend Saturday wine tasting, hiking, enjoying the sights and history, shopping or just relaxing. There will be overnight tent camping allowed inside of Feeney Park, plus great food, live music, and much, much more!

The 100K costs $45 and the 50K $35. All proceeds benefit Feeney Park, a non-profit community sports and recreational facility in Murphys, complete with youth soccer and baseball fields, skatepark, walking trails, picnic areas, and an amphitheater.

The chicken-in-the-barrel dinner after the ride will be served from 2-5 pm, and is open to the local community. There will be live music, wine tasting, and other entertanment, so even if you are riding please come out and join us. Tickets are $12 adult and $6 child. We appreciate advance reservations to help us calculate our food purchases. Please email jbyost@gmail.com.

Of course it takes quite a few people to make an event like this happen, and the folks at the Feeney Park Foundation are looking for volunteers to run rest stops, direct traffic, or help with registration and the post-ride dinner at the park. If you can help please contact John Yost at jbyost@gmail.com or 728-8501."
