Monica Darlene Heller 1934 ~ 2023 (Updated)

Angels Camp, CA...Monica Darlene Heller October 30, 1934 ~ May 30, 2023 (age 88). Monica Darlene Heller passed away on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, with her family by her side at the age of 88. She was born in Stockton, California on October 30th, 1934. Darlene graduated from Calaveras High School in 1952 and enrolled in Holy Names College in Oakland, California. Following her graduation in 1957 she began her teaching career in Stockton where she taught for a total of 7 and a half years. Upon returning to Calaveras County, she spent five years at San Andreas Elementary and 28 years at Mark Twain Elementary. Darlene loved teaching and helping children learn. She always remembered everyone she taught and their names. She always expressed how much she loved and cared for all of her students, and shared stories of them all the way till the end of her life.

Darlene's faith in the Catholic Church was very important to her and she loved her Church Family. Darlene was married to her husband Carl Heller for 52 years. He loved and appreciated her and all she did for him. She took wonderful care of him and was a very loving wife.

Darlene is reunited in Heaven with her parents, Tormey and Sally Ward, and her husband, Carl. Darlene was a very caring and loving person and would go out of her way to help anyone that needed it. Darlene also loved her country and will be dearly missed.

One of my favorite teachers -- a lady of such class. Also, she famously had the best cursive of anybody at MT. This makes me so sad.

Oh no I am so saddened to hear of this news! I just seen her not that long ago at the store and even though I never had her as a teacher personally, she remembered me. (1990) I recall thinking to myself as a kid that she seemed very intimidating, strict, and to my then naive self almost scary! How silly I was. She was one of the nicest and kindest people I think I have ever met. I remember when a friend of mine ( who has now passed as well) walked into her classroom on break while she was combing her hair. She always kept it in such a tight bun but on breaks she would take it out and let her hair down and I'm not kidding you the shock that came across my face when I noticed she was combing all the way down passed her knees! It was beautiful. My grandmother spoke very highly of her. She, in my opinion, set the standard for what a teacher should look like and be respected as. When I think of her I only think what a beautiful and classy woman she was then and how she looked EVERY time I saw her. You will be greatly missed Mrs. Heller; by anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting you. Melinda Willis

Teachers to be: Take a look at a real lady, she dressed professionally, h your first impression was that she was there to do her job, and very professionally! Today’s teachers look like they were fired from the carnival after Frog Jump! Tatted to the max, piercings, not very professional, but sorry to say, this disfunctional society is all in! Mrs. Heller, you gave respect to your profession, and not only that, you we’re great at what you did!

Wonderful Lady and Teacher

I worked with Darlene for 23 years at Mark Twain. She taught both of my boys, as I was one of those parents that insisted on certain teachers to teach my kids. I picked Darlene to be my kids teacher because she was the best of the best. She followed through with the students and they knew where they stood with her. She kept in contact with the parents as often as was needed. She also kept a supply of air freshner spray for obvious reasons. Lol. She did have some gassy boys in Zhe classroom. She will be dearly missed. Rest in peace Darlene.
