Greater Valley Springs Advisory Group Will Feature Question and Answer Session with Supervisor Candidates, Zerrall McDaniel and Gary Tofanelli
Valley Springs, CA....The next meeting of the Greater Valley Springs Advisory Group will feature a question and answer session with District One supervisor candidates Zerrall McDaniel and Gary Tofanelli and a hands-on effort to initiate a community survey. The public is invited to attend the meeting on September 25, 7:00 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 135 Laurel Street.....
The GVSAG, an ad hoc group of Valley Springs citizens and stakeholders, has been working on the development and distribution of a community survey to provide Calaveras County with information and input from local residents to help draft community-specific language for Valley Springs in the current update of the county’s General Plan.
The recent news that Caltrans will provide grant funds in 2009 to produce a Valley Springs community plan makes the current community survey even more relevant and valuable, as it will become part of the pool of existing information relevant to the Valley Springs planning area. The Calaveras Council of Governments will receive $204,648 with COG providing a match of $51,162 for a total of $255,810 for the project titled, “Rural Smart Growth: A Community-Based Plan for Valley Springs.”
The Calaveras County Community Development Agency has provided 5,600 mailing labels and pledged to pay the postage for the community survey. GVSAG needs to provide the surveys, envelopes, and return envelopes with mailing labels affixed at an estimated cost of $1,500. The GVSAG is currently working to raise the needed funds in order to mail the survey in early November. Contributions may be mailed to The Greater Valley Springs Advisory Group, P.O. Box 1071, Valley Springs, 95252.
GVSAG Coordinating Committee Co-Chair Mike Hazelhofer said the survey results will be an important contribution to the community planning process. “We invite the entire community to join us on the 25th and help us stuff envelopes. We’re trying to get everything ready, so all that’ll be left to do is insert the surveys when they’re ready. We welcome any help. This is an opportunity for the community to work together, get acquainted, and meet the candidates,” Hazelhofer said.
The GVSAG encourages broad public participation in community planning and in the general plan update. For further understanding of the GVSAG, please visit www.gvsag.org, email info@gvsag.org, attend the September 25 meeting, or call Mike Hazelhofer, 743-3987.
