Official Press Release from Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office on Fatal Structure Fire

Sonora, CA....Fire Investigators concluded that this fire was accidental in nature. It appeared there were no signs of foul play. The victim in this case has not positively been identified. Additional follow up is being conducted by the Corner’s Division to confirm the victim’s identity.....

Investigation:

At 1841 hours last night fire, medic, and sheriff’s units were dispatched to a report of a house on fire with a subject trapped inside.

Deputy George Woodward was first on scene and reported the residence fully engulfed. The surrounding vegetation was also on fire and power lines went down as well. Responding fire units were unable to save the structure.

There is one confirmed fatality in the fire. The Sheriff’s Office secured the scene overnight and this morning, the Fire Investigations Unit (FIU) and Detectives are on scene to try to determine the cause of the fire.

As in all such cases were are treating the location as a crime scene until it is determined to be otherwise; however, we have no reason to believe there is criminal involvement at this time.

Neighbors and relatives have identified the resident as Daniel C. Lowe, 58 years old. He was seen in the residence during the fire and was not seen thereafter. Again, the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed. That process will begin after the removal of the remains.

Press Release completed by: Deputy Paul Tualla, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office
