Columbia College Fire Academy Graduating 29!
Columbia, CA...The Columbia College Fire Academy is happy to announce that 29 successful students have earned graduation and Certificates of Completion from the Fire Technology Program. Students who completed Firefighter 1 and 2 will be awarded their certificates on December 15, 2022 in the Oak Pavilion at 6pm.
Certificates are awarded upon students’ successful completion of academic and manipulative training mandated for California Firefighter 1 & 2 Certification. The students must additionally complete six months of full-time or a year of part-time field experience before applying for the state certification.
“Some graduates will apply for or continue with reserve, intern, and volunteer positions at local fire departments that they’ve held since entering the academy,” said Chief Shane Warner, Columbia College Fire Technology Program Coordinator/Instructor. Instructor Andy Van Hoogmoed noted, “Students are given the opportunity to complete the standard application process for seasonal employment with CAL FIRE, US Forest Service, and local fire agencies.”
The students completed an intense 16 weeks of rigorous training designed to help serious candidates meet the requirements for careers as professional firefighters, including more than 616 hours of academic and manipulative training, according to Chief Shane Warner.
In addition to “routine” fire training classes, they received specialized training in Incident Command Systems, Hazardous Materials, Seasonal Wildland Firefighting classes, Confined Space, Basic Power Saw Safety, and Vehicle Extrication.
Special thanks are owed to the Columbia College Fire Department, Copperopolis Fire District, Ebbetts Pass Fire District, Columbia Fire District, Sonora City Fire Department, Twain Harte Fire Department, Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indian Rancheria Fire Department, Tuolumne City Fire Department, Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Department, Tuolumne County Fire Department, CAL FIRE TCU, Hayward Fire Department, Merced Fire Department, and Sierra Conservation Center.
“Columbia College Fire Science students are looked at as role models on our campus,” said Steve Amador, Dean of Career Technical Education. “These students are hardworking and dedicated to their success. I am proud of each and every one of them.”
Columbia College President Dr. Lena Tran said, “I applaud our graduates. Firefighters have a demanding job that requires strength, commitment, motivation and challenges their mental, emotional, and physical preparedness. We are proud to know that our students are well-trained to serve the community.”

Roughly 30 more 3 day work week dudes and dudes es. More spec house builders, and retirements that are unfounded! Any kid in the Motherlode that doesn’t go to college wants to be a fire fighter, who wouldn’t, I have been to a few Cal-Fire memorials and more is said about the deceased cooking skills than their work ethic! What a scam, you need three times as many employees because everyone is off at their second jobs 4 day’s a week! Sleep tight, and hope someone will show up if you have a fire!
Aw! Did you want to be a fireman one day but you were to stupid or lazy or afraid to become one? Shut up a$$ clown and get over your petty jealousy.. You had career choices.
^The way he puts it, you can't be too stupid or lazy to be a fire fighter. In fact, both sound almost like job requirements. I take it, you had no problem qualifying?

I guess during fire seaso, which is almost year round now, a dotard thinks fires will go out by themselves.
Wildfire firefighters work long hours from June to October. My opinion is, during the "off" season, these firefighters could/should be clearing the fuels that will the next fire season fire fuel.
Year round fire suppression.
Like CalTrans, Law Enforcement, Public Education, and our Healthcare industry, the fire question in CA becomes a Legislation issue.
Some call that Socialism.
Well, are we just going to make believe that road maintenance, crime, education, health issues, and Wildfires will go away?

Fire Fighters are basically good people. But they target the trough. They get on it, and only leave when forced to. Or when they retire on 100% pay and bennies at a very early age. Bottom line, they work the system.
