Murphys...It's Cocktail Hour! Historic Murphys Hotel Owners Win Planning Commission Approval of New Sign!

San Andreas, CA...The Murphys Hotel will finally get a new sign. In what has been a lengthy process the Murphys Hotel has won the right to replace the aging sign with a new recreation of the 1940's era sign that adorned the front of the Hotel. This will also allow them to remove the dying tree that has gradually become a safety hazard as well as a mounting point for the current sign. This has been a controversial project. Some in the community including Supervisor Tom Tryon have not wanted to see a neon sign go up in Murphys. In speaking with Hotel Owner Dorian Faught a few weeks ago he explained that the new sign will...

be almost the same size with the minor change of a small martini glass adorning the top portion of the sign. The aging tree will be removed and a small pole erected to carry the new sign.

Dorian also showed as an old photograph with a similar sign gracing the front of the building in the 1940's. Dorian Faught & Beth Hartline have worked hard to win the support of the rest of the business owners in the the Murphys Downtown area. A large number of them signed on in support of the new illumination.

Also at the planning meeting this morning's meeting the proposed billboards along Hwy 12 were struck down. I doubt we have heard the last of this issue as it may make it's way to the Board of Supervisors for appeal.
