Yes on A! Campaign Hosts Town Hall Oct. 6 in Murphys! Increased Fire Protection for Everyone!

Murphys, CA...The Calaveras Local Fire Protection Committee for Measure A will host a Town Hall at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Native Sons of the Golden West Hall, 389 Main St., Murphys. The Town Hall offers a chance for voters to learn the details of Measure A, the Calaveras Local Fire Protection Tax Initiative. Calaveras County voters will decide on Nov. 8 whether to approve Measure A, which is a 1 percent sales tax to fund fire protection.

“We hope voters will come ready to ask questions,” said Dana M. Nichols, chairman of the citizen committee behind the measure. “We understand that this community strongly supports public safety, including firefighters. At the same time, not everyone may be familiar with the limited funding and staffing challenges facing our local fire agencies.”

Nichols said that representatives of the Murphys Fire Protection District will be invited to the meeting so that they can also offer information on how the district operates.

Murphys, like most fire districts in the county, depends on volunteer firefighters. Firefighters receive small stipends when they serve shifts at the station. Recently, many volunteers have been leaving fire districts countywide to take paid jobs.

When Murphys or any other district has a large emergency – a fully involved structure fire or a wildland fire that can’t be knocked down upon first attack – then it counts on neighboring districts to send in additional engines and firefighters.

Nichols, who is also on the board of San Andreas Fire Protection District, noted that Cal Fire also helps – when its engines are here. “Cal Fire at times sends its crews to big fires elsewhere in California. When that happens, Cal Fire counts on the local fire districts to cover for it.” Also, Cal Fire specializes in wildland fires. It is the local fire districts that have the specialized equipment and training for handling car crashes and health emergencies.

“Mutual aid is why we all need to confront this together,” Nichols said. “In order to keep my community from burning down, I need to know that my neighbors also have firefighters on duty who can help when needed.”

Nichols said that the citizens committee spent months in discussions with the local fire districts to come up with a plan that would win wide support. The measure requires that most of the funding be spent to keep firefighters on duty and requires fire agencies to report on how they use the money.

“This is a special tax – it can only be spent for operating our fire protection agencies,” Nichols said. “Voters may not realize that some of the other taxes they approved in recent years – such as the Transient Occupancy Tax – are general taxes. Even if those taxes were sold as benefiting public safety, elected leaders can always decide to use them for something else because they are general taxes. In contrast, elected leaders have no discretion to use Measure A for anything but its stated purpose – to keep firefighters on duty and adequately equipped and housed.”

Sales tax is the most regressive form of tax. Vote yes on A if you hate poor people.

            Mr. Hamilton....

Are you planning on giving equal time to an opposition representative?

This is a very one-sided presentation.

Sales taxes are regressive they hurt poor people and the rich never even notice them. They are a bad tax. I think the powers that be know they would not be able to pass a parcel tax so they chose this route. It’s a bad route. The idea of getting more money to first responders is a noble one. This measure is trash. Do better next time.

Screw every measure in California. I think as person that works I do pay enough in federal and state taxes. No more. The hell with paying for everyone and people coming in ILLEGAL to America. And all the other crap we pay for some disgusting pink blue haired her/him/they to live off my hard work so they can bitch and complain at cost of life. Well when my tax dollars come in on a EDD card buy a mirror and the reflection is you. Question you for voting Democrats.

Seriously, they want more money from the tax payers when Newscum and his elite Demorat buddies can fund this measure with the money that the state has. I say vote NO on this bullish*t. Yes I care about fire protection but to keep taxing the residents of this state is completely wrong.

I pay enough for fire insurance and now they want us to pay more for fire protection with an increase in the sales tax? Oh Hell No! How do we know that the money from the increased sales tax will be used for that purpose? Get your money from some other source and leave the taxpayers alone.

The text of Measure A states implicitly that these are not general funds monies but must be passed on to the districts

There's some big trouble in brewing in paradise.

I think most people heard that our First Partner of California, that's what the woke people of CA now call the " Partner" of the Governor Incase being married to the governor they don't want to be called a man or women or they're just too confused at the moment how they identify their gender.
Any frickin way, our first partners mom and pop during the pandemic said they could not live with all these new rules and regulations that stopped them from living anything close to a life without what felt like being a prisoner who was granted parole and having to see their probation officer everyday.
So Kenneth and Judith Siebel bought a $3.3 Million Dollar home in Naples, Florida and said they are greatly enjoying our new home and experiencing a new Freedom that they said " we seemed to have lost and never noticed it before" living in the Northern CA. small town of Ross located about 18 miles North of the GG Bridge.
The Siebels being life time Republicans as was Jennifer before marriage who after marrying Gavin changed her voting to Independent. Kenneth Diesel Jr was reported to have donated $5000 to the Ron DeSantis re-election campaine as well as to recent donations include contributions to the campaigns of Republicans Sens. Ron Johnson, Tom Cotton and Josh Hawley.
Mr Siebel acknowledged the latest words from Gavin to Florida Gov Ron DeSantis may also be because of the strain in the Newsom household when word came out about Jennifer's parents multiple donations to the Republican Party and nothing to Gavin's campaign. Mr Sieble also sadly said the strain of the reported multiple sexual affairs of Gavin Newsoms with his office personnel, and then Kenneth wanting his daughter and his grandkids to come to Florida and get their lives back on track, to make up her mind the best for her and her know ds during this difficult time. He believes the recent spats between Governor Newsom and Governor DeSantiss is related with his son- In-laws marriage infidelity.
Mr and Mrs Siebel just want their daughter and kids to be happy again and think she just needs a little time on her own to see what's best for her and her family.
They respectfully asked for no further questions and to please give their daughter and her family the respect and privacy they need during this difficult time.

The joys of public life. Imagine what it's been like under the microscope in the family of Queen Elizabeth's rein? No thanks for any of it. I'm just surprised Gavin wasn't busted sooner, or he was and the media in CA didn't report it because he's our governor?

The Stock Market was up....

Again!!!??? The Stock Market was climbing this morning going up about 200 points. But of course Biden opened his Senile " brain" and sadly...it came out his mouth. The end result was the usual, the Stock Market going down YET AGAIN UNDER THIS DISASTROUSLY ⬇️⬇️ F CKED UP ADMINISTRATION IS CLUELESS ON WHAT THEY ARE DOING UNLESS OF COURSE THEY REALLY TRULY WANTING TO MAKE US A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, THEN THEY ARE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB.
Now let's read the lib/ Dems reasons why this administration is doing so great, how brilliant our POTUS is with his understanding of the economy, and how happy we should be that well over A HUNDRED MILLION AMERICAN CITIZENS are finding it very difficult to pay their rent, their utility bills and food, any wondering what bills they won't be paying under this Senile, weak, Dictator, who probably doesn't even know what day of the week it is.

Ironically it's all of you above who will use the services of FFs coming to your house the most for medical aids (cigarettes, pot smoke, bad diets etc) yet you think miraculously they can keep paying for trucks, supplies, staff without taxes. Just try once to get educated on a subject before you spout your illiterate nonsense.
