This is a reminder that swimming areas have many hazards. When travelling to swimming areas, you should read and understand all of the rules and warnings. Here are a few other tips to keep you safe when travelling to swimming areas.
Watch your step. Many of these areas have slippery rocks and uneven surfaces.
Know your limitations. Don’t try to swim past your limitations. You could be injured or killed.
If you are not a very skilled swimmer, use an approved Personal Floatation Device (PFD).
Always swim in areas that are safe. Be sure to inspect for all hazards in and out of the water.
Don’t dive into unknown or shallow waters. You may not know what hazards exist beneath the water.
Never swim alone. Always swim with a buddy.
Remember drinking alcoholic beverages and water sports such as rafting, boating and swimming don’t mix.
Always be aware of water flow in rivers. Remember throughout the swimming season, the water flows can increase and decrease without warning.
