Outlook

Planned Actions Firefighting personnel continue to focus on building containment lines around the fire through the removal of fire fuels, and tactical patrol around the fire perimeter. This involves both manual line construction with hand crews and mechanical line construction utilizing bulldozers. Firefighters assigned to tactical patrol will work to keep the fire within the current fire perimeter. However, very steep terrain will continue to challenge all personnel and make direct attack difficult.
Projected Incident Activity Continued hot/dry conditions. Anticipating increased fire behavior. California Interagency Incident Management Team CAIIMT Team 5 (Young) has been assigned and took command of the fire at 6:00 pm.
Remarks Placer County Health and Human Services and the Placer County Air Pollution Control District are issuing a joint air quality advisory through Friday, September 9, due to potentially poor air quality conditions from smoke from the Mosquito Fire. More: https://placer.ca.gov/8251/Joint-air-quality-advisory-from-Placer-C

Current Weather

Temperatures tomorrow will remain over 100 degrees with very low humidities and winds in the fire area gusting to 25 mph which combined with steep terrain provides difficulties in directly attacking the fire and creating fuel breaks.

That canyon hadn't burnt in - what? - maybe 40 years. Seems like that's been the story for all the big ones of the past few years, along with drought. Prayers for all first responders and those in its path.
