California Statewide Fire Summary September 7, 2022
Sacramento, CA...As of this morning, there are over 5,600 firefighters making progress on 10 major wildfires and two extended attack wildfires in California. Today, four major wildfires, along with two initial attack incidents have been contained. Yesterday, firefighters responded to 40 new initial attack wildfires across the state. Since the beginning of the year, 251,002 acres have burned in California. While firefighters continue battling the current major wildfires, CAL FIRE and fire departments across the state remain prepared for the potential for more significant wildfires due to critical fire weather.
A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 2pm to 9pm Wednesday for strong gusty wind with low relative humidity along with dry thunderstorms on dry fuels for Siskiyou County, including Shasta Valley, and Modoc County.
Northern California will continue to see high risk through Friday for heat wave conditions with very low day and nighttime relative humidity, strong thermal belts, and periods of locally gusty afternoon winds. There is a high risk for isolated to widely scattered dry, fast-moving thunderstorms over the northwest mountains, the northeast and far eastside of California Wednesday morning to evening combined with gusty afternoon winds. Very hot surface conditions with near to record high temperatures and very warm overnight readings across a broad area of the region thru Friday. Very warm temperatures will continue in most areas of Southern California through Friday. Mild offshore flow will keep temperatures high and humidity low during the overnight hours at times this week across Southern CA.
