Great Mother Lode Brass and Reed Band Opens Acnecc's Second Season

The Arts Committee of Northeast Calaveras County (ACNECC), serving the communities of West Point, Wilseyville, Glencoe, and Rail Road Flat, opens its second season of concerts with the Great Mother Lode Brass and Reed Band. The open-air concert will take place at 4 :00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, on the spacious grounds of the home of Vicki Snead-Hinkell and John Pelletti just outside downtown West Point. The theme is An old fashioned grand band, grandstand fun time - in the tradition of John Phillips Souza’s music once performed in town parks across America......

The Great Mother Lode Brass and Reed Band is composed of some thirty accomplished woodwind, brass and percussion players from Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, under the direction of Hank King. King, longtime music director at Amador High School in Sutter Creek, has over 30 years of conducting experience. In addition to his work in the public schools, he has been the conductor of the Sierra Symphony in Placerville and was the first conductor of the Mother Lode Friends of Music Orchestra. He is currently conductor of the Mother Lode Youth Symphony.

The program selected for the September 14 event will be an entertaining array of music written for large wind ensembles, including selections from My Fair Lady, light-hearted works by British composers Gordon Jacob and Percy Grainger, and all-American marches.

Tickets for the event are $12 for adults, with children through high school admitted free if accompanied by an adult. In keeping with the theme, an All-American menu of food and drink concessions will be in operation before, during and after the concert. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, cushions or blankets for the shady, open-lawn seating. Please don’t bring outside food or drink.

Tickets are for sale at Sam Snead Real Estate in downtown West Point, at the Rail Road Flat Store, and at the gate on the day of the performance. The Snead-Hinkell/Pelletti home is located at 22947 Highway 26, approximately one half mile north of Main Street in West Point going towards Pine Grove. The driveway will be marked with signs. For more information, call 293-7979.

The concert is presented by the Arts Committee of the Northeast Corner of Calaveras County – ACNECC. The group’s mission is to bring quality entertainment to the region of Calaveras County that includes West Point, Glencoe, Rail Road Flat and Wilseyville, while raising money to send local youth of any age to arts camp or to music or art classes via scholarships. ACNECC completed its first season with sufficient funds to award arts scholarships to five local young people in June of 2008.
