Conservation Strategies: An Overview of Easements and the Williamson Act
Valley Springs, CA....On Saturday, August 16, the Mother Lode Land Trust in cooperation with the Foothill Conservancy and MyValleySprings.com will present Conservation Strategies: An Overview of Easements and the Williamson Act from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Valley Springs Elementary School, 240 Pine Street.....
Landowners and interested members of the public will learn about the Williamson Act and the history of conservation in California. The workshop will address how conservation benefits landowners, agriculture, water, and the community and what local programs are available. Attendees will also learn what conservation easements and land trusts are and how land trusts can help property owners with easements.
The interactive workshop will begin with a discussion of the Williamson Act featuring Scott Oneto, U. C. Agriculture Extension Farm Adviser, Tuolumne County and Mary Mutz, Calaveras County Agriculture Commissioner, followed by Clark Anderson of the Local Government Commission, who will discuss the relationship between land conservation and water. Catherine Webster of Webster Ranch, Inc., who owns land in Calaveras County under a conservation easement, will end the morning session.
The afternoon will be devoted to conservation easements and feature Darla Guenzler, Executive Director, California Council of Land Trusts; Devere Dressler, Chairman of the Board, California Rangeland Trust; and Ellie Routt, Executive Director, Mother Lode Land Trust. Dan Port of Winterport Farms, who owns land under an easement in Amador County, will talk about his personal experience.
The workshop is free, and lunch will be provided. Reservations are required.
