Firestorm Firefighter Loses Life Preparing for Prescribed Burin in Tuolumne County

Chico, CA...We are deeply saddened to share that Friday, May 6th, Firestorm Firefighter Darin Banks, of Red Bluff, California, tragically died after being struck by a dead tree that unexpectedly fell. Darin was assigned to a Type II Initial Attack Hand Crew working to prepare an area for prescribed burning in Tuolumne County.

Darin was 26 years-old and loved by many. He leaves behind his 4-year-old son, mother, siblings, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
Our hearts go out to all who knew and loved Darin, and we ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow.
Firestorm will release more information regarding services as soon as it is available.

A go-fund me account has been set up to support of Darin’s family. http://tiny.cc/darinbanks

Respectfully,
Jess R. Wills - President
Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression, Inc.

You must not be from around here…the park and Big Trees is in and once it crosses the Stanislaus river is Toulumne including the South Grove of redwoods. Sorry for the man’s and family loss.

Apologies. I am from around here but had never learned that the South Grove is in Tuolumne. Only knew it as the park off of Rte 4 up the hill. Prayers and healing thoughts for his family and friends going forward.

What a shame! A good man's life lost because they let dead timber stand. The loss is to the community, the shame to the Governor who cuts funding.
