The Calaveras Children’s Repertory Theatre Presented an Outstanding Performance of “Beauty and the Beast” ~By Hanna Alldrin
Angels Camp, CA.....Over 50 aspiring young actors and actresses took to the stage this Saturday for an outstanding performance of "Beauty and the Beast." There were two performances on Saturday at the Bret Harte Theatre. The first showing was at 2pm and the second was held at 7pm, both performances had a full house. Walt Disney's 1991 instant classic film, Beauty and the Beast, is not only the finest animated movie ever made, but deserves an all thumbs up for the transition from screen to theatre. Talented director Ann Mazzaferro did an beautiful job inspiring her students and introducing the magic of theatre. For the past several weeks the Calaveras County Children's Repertory Theatre students have been learning, reciting, and rehearsing for their lines for the Disney musical production.......

Belle is a girl who is dissatisfied with life in a small French town, she is constantly trying to ignore the misplaced "affections" of conceited and popular Gaston. The Beast is a prince who was placed under a spell because he could not love. Ashley Chase plays Belle, Anthony Dooley plays both the Beast and his human counterpart, and Mike Anisko is the desirable, Gaston.
A wrong turn taken by Maurice, Belle's father, causes the two to meet. Jordan Strauch is Belle's father Maurice. Maurice got lost in the forest and needed a place to sleep for the night and welcomes himself into the enchanted castle where the Beast puts him in a dark cell, alone. Belle notices that her father is missing and goes after him. Belle finds her father in the beasts castle and boldly takes her father's place, imprisoned in the Beast's gloomy castle.
The many enchanted household items show the beast to be kind and loving towards Belle. Ryan Arce Jaeger is Lumiere; Danielle Benedetti is Mrs. Potts; Colton Minehart is her son Chip; Dylan Arce Jaeger is Cogsworth; Sarah Kraemer plays the wardrobe, and Marita Elliot is the feather duster.
Naturally, Belle teaches the Beast to love and the spell in finally broken with help from all the other members of the castle. The the other members of the castle include: Brighton Hamari, Justin Sharp, Elizabeth Howell, Vincent Marquez, Madison Ratto, Cally Gustafson Brenna Landis, Brayden Walker, Logan Walker, Stefanie Daumberger, Sierra Dickey, Isaiah Carey, Kailer McFall, Kaiya Hall, Madeline Marshall, Rebecca Elliot, Ramon Marquez, Kirsten Saunders, John Lambert, Grayson Hamari, Javon Gilbert, Franziska Daumberger, Summer Hamari, Katherine Sharp, Claudia Loomis, Eden Strauch, Annalise Hamari, Katie Landis, Brianna Gilbert and Lindsey Michels, Alyssa Walker, Laura Kraemer, Marissa Menzes, Elyse Bailey, Katie Gianelli, Kiefer Minehart, Peter Bailey, Jose Loomis, Adan Loomis, Brittany Nunez, Emily Trent, Katie Duquette, Molly Johnston, Kristina Gianelli, Nick Briggs, Joanna Howell, Amanda Craig, Monica Shuck, Elizabeth Howell, Vincent Marquez, Madison Ratto, Cally Gustafson, Raychel Nash.
Other people who helped this production have such a large success is lights and sound by David Duggan, special beast makeup by Skip Sharp, assistants of the director- the Minehart Family, Dina Duquette. Backdrop by Amber Straugh, executive director was Donna Broglio, Donna's assistant was Nancy Puccio, and photographer Pat Strohmeyer.
