GRAMMY Winning Artist Returns to Moaning Cavern
Vallecito, CA....On Saturday, August 2nd from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Moaning Cavern will welcome back Native American Flutist Mary Youngblood and the Northern California Flute Circle for a third “back by popular demand” concert inside the cavern, located at 5350 Moaning Cave Rd. in Vallecito. Tickets are $24.95 for space on the cavern floor, $19.95 for space on Moaning Cavern’s famous spiral staircase, and $14.95 for space at the top of the main chamber. Advance reservations are highly recommended. Reservations can be made by calling (209) 736-2708.....
Youngblood’s previous concerts in the cave have been a magical experience for all who attended. Youngblood fell in love with the sound her music makes in the cave, when recording her debut album, 'The Offering,' live in the cave. The natural acoustics lend a beautiful echo and organic quality to the distinctly memorable melodies that Youngblood creates with her flutes. It is that unique sound which brings her back to Moaning Cavern for this encore performance. The Northern California Flute Circle, a group of amateur Native flutists and percussionists co-founded by Youngblood herself, promise to, once again, bring a depth and dimension of sound to the cavern.
Concert goers are delighted to participate with percussion instruments they bring themselves for part of the performance. This audience participation is part of the special charm of the event, showcasing not only Youngblood’s incredible, grammy winning talent, but also allowing everyone to feel a true connection to the music.
The concert will take place in Moaning Cavern's huge, marble, main chamber measuring approximately 165 feet deep by 70 feet wide. The temperature is a comfortable 61°F (16°C) with high humidity, and there may be a little dripping water (also known as cave kisses) in some places, so light jackets are recommended. Due to the natural rocky environment, those attending the concert are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes - and tennis shoes or hiking boots. Those seated on the cavern floor should bring a blanket, cushion or low back collapsible chair or stool. Anything carried into the cavern must be carried out, so keep items small. No food or drinks are allowed inside the cave.
