Shade Sails to Be Dedicated During Murphys Homecoming
Murphys, CA....A series of shade sails, fabricated in Australia, have been installed in the Murphys Community Park and will be dedicated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, during Murphys Homecoming. Designed to shield the climbing and sliding apparatus in the children’s play area from the summer sun, the sails were purchased and erected by the Murphys Community Club under the direction of board member Mark Skenfield....
Volunteers Hard at Work Setting up Shade Sails
On June 2 a number of volunteers gathered in the park to erect several telephone poles, donated by PG&E, to support the sails. The sails themselves were installed on July 17. Due to the manufacturer’s miscalculation, one of the three sails was the wrong size and is being reordered. The installed sails cover most of the intended area.
In addition to money from the Murphys Community Club, the project has been funded through the generosity of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, the Carol Bush Memorial Fund, a county grant made possible by Supervisor Tom Tryon, and the proceeds from the raffle of a week-long stay in Cabo San Lucas in a home owned by club president Michal Houston.
The total cost of the project is in excess of $20,000.
