Wilseyville Hare Scramble Off-Highway Vehicle Event a Big Success

Wilseyville, CA...Since the mid-1990s, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has received funding from the State of California to specifically staff and purchase equipment for off-highway vehicle enforcement activities. Since then, deputies have been assigned to patrol areas of Calaveras County that experience both legal and illegal usage. By employing a balance of education, outreach and enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office works to preserve and enhance allowable opportunities for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts.

During the weekend of November 20th and 21nd, 2021, riders from all over the region came to Wilseyville to test their skills in the “Wilseyville Hare Scramble.” As a long-standing race, the event offered sanctioned races for all ages and skill levels. The event drew a large crowd with approximately 750 riders and many more spectators and vendors. While some contestants were unable to finish their respective races due to minor injuries and mechanical failures, everyone left for home feeling the event in its entirety was a tremendous success.

This event is an example of private organizations offering sustainable long-term OHV recreation events by minimizing the negative impact of illegal and unsanctioned trails on public lands. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that enjoys using our public lands for operating their off-highway vehicles to do so in a safe manner. Whether you are riding a quad, motorcycle, UTV, or snowmobile, a helmet is ALWAYS required. Remember to always ride with a buddy, let someone know where you are going, and never ride anywhere that is beyond your skill level or is not a sanctioned trail.

We are currently filling our plastic shopping bags with all grades of gasoline, stop by our booth, and get a fill-up.

If these posts are any indication, America no longer able to function again. We're so dug in to our particular ideologies that we've forgotten that compromise is a good thing.

Hey Sheriff Office next year have CHP team up with you to patrol Blue Mountain Road/Rail Road Flat Road where it's POSTED 35 MPH from Post Office out through Blue Mountain Road. These trucks/trailers pulling the bikes were traveling upwards to 65 mph. We should not have to deal with this kind of traffic while watching animals get hit and killed along with vehicles pulling over into private property
