In East Germany , the communist regime created the Stasi, which was a secret police force.
Desantis proposed a state militia with him at the head yesterday.
Desantis already has the National Guard, but this is under purview of the Pentagon, he openly said he does not want the Federal government involved in this police force.
This has many aspects, which are troubling, and sets up a confrontation with the Federal government, which harkens back to the lead up to the civil war .
There has been sedition talk of late from Texas mostly, Florida was the birthplace for the KKK. The state has a checkered history regarding civil rights, and past issues with the Federal government the worst was the bush V Gore SCOTUS coup, in which bush was anointed president , when he did not win the popular vote in Florida as 3 post election independent audits by universities and news papers showed.
Desantis is jockeying for a run in 2024 for the presidency.

Cool your jets hoser. Many states have state guards who directly answer to their governor, even California I believe. Just because Desantis is a wannabe banana republic dictator doesn't mean Florida, and it's citizens, aren't entitled to the additional security a state guard may afford.
