Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup Recommends Moderna, Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Booster Shots, Approves Mix-and-Match Booster Shots

Sacramento, CA...The Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup today completed its review of the federal process and has recommended a booster dose for recipients of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines. Recipients of the Moderna vaccine may receive a booster shot six months after completing their primary vaccination series, and recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine may receive a booster shot two months after receiving their first dose.

The Workgroup also approved the “mix-and-match” strategy, endorsed by the FDA and CDC. This allows anyone qualifying for a booster to receive any of the FDA-approved vaccines. Individuals may receive either the same or a different COVID-19 vaccine, depending on advice from a health care provider, individual preference, availability or convenience. The Workgroup provided its confirmation to the Governors of California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington today.

The Workgroup recommended the following groups of people who received the Moderna vaccine should receive a booster dose after at least six months:

People 65 years of age and older,
People 18 years of age and older residing in a long-term care facility, or
People 50 through 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions or at increased risk of social inequities.
The Workgroup recommended that all individuals 18 years of age or older who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine should receive a booster dose two months after their first shot.

In addition, the Workgroup recommended that the following groups who received the Moderna vaccine may also receive a booster dose after six months:

People 18 through 49 years of age with underlying medical conditions or at increased risk of social inequities, or
People 18 years of age or older who are at risk for SARS-CoV-2 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting.
The Workgroup strongly endorsed the CDC’s recognition that long-standing health and social inequities have increased the risk of severe illness from COVID-19, and again recommended that social determinants of vulnerability be included in the assessment of medical conditions that qualify individuals for booster doses.

Because unvaccinated individuals remain at much higher risk of COVID-19 than vaccinated individuals, the Workgroup also reiterated that its members strongly support vaccination against COVID-19 for everyone 12 years of age and older.

The Workgroup last month recommended a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at least six months after their primary vaccination series for people older than 65 and those 18+ who have underlying medical conditions or are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19, following action by the FDA and CDC.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized booster shots of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, and the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices affirmed that decision on Thursday. The Workgroup reviewed and affirmed the federal decisions in meetings Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Washington, Oregon, and Nevada joined California’s COVID-19 Scientific Safety Review Workgroup last year. The workgroup, made up of nationally-acclaimed scientists with expertise in immunization and public health, has concurrently and independently reviewed the FDA’s actions related to COVID-19 vaccines. It will continue to evaluate other COVID-19 vaccines as they go through the federal process.

Statement from California Governor Gavin Newsom:

“California is leading the nation in vaccinations, with 52 million administered and 86 percent of the eligible population having received at least one dose – today’s Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup recommendation on booster shots will help keep the momentum going as we enter the winter months. Through our investments in targeted outreach and robust community-based partnerships, our work continues to reach the hardest-hit communities. Vaccines are how we end this pandemic – I encourage all eligible Californians to visit MyTurn.ca.gov to schedule an appointment for their first dose or find a booster shot to keep themselves and their community healthy.”

Statement from Oregon Governor Kate Brown:

“I am grateful to be one of the millions of Americans protected by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine from COVID-19, severe illness, and hospitalization. Whether you received the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine, everyone eligible who wants a booster will be able to get one and the extra layer of protection a booster dose provides. I’m committed to ensuring our most vulnerable Oregonians are protected from COVID-19, including those who are at higher risk due to systemic health and social inequities. Vaccination is our pathway out of this pandemic. If you still have questions about getting vaccinated, call your doctor or health care provider today to get your questions answered.”

Statement from Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak:

“Through vaccination we will end this pandemic. We know the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and the review done by our Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup should give all Nevadans and residents of our sister states an added confidence in vaccination and the recommended booster dose. Thank you to my fellow governors and the experts who take the time to support public health through this workgroup. This guidance for the Moderna and Janssen vaccines is vital for our providers and many partners working to support their communities – we look forward to providing so many Nevadans an extra layer of protection through a booster.”

Statement from Washington Governor Jay Inslee:

“The COVID vaccines continue to offer very strong protection against severe illness and death and are saving lives every day. Now people who qualify to get a booster don’t have to be restricted to one brand of vaccine,” said Washington Gov. Jay Inslee. “They are able to get whichever is available to them and is best for them. This is a critical factor in finding our way out of this pandemic.”

The Sterilization of Parent Rights (and American "freedom," as far as that goes)…
What threshold of caving to coercing, guilting, peer-pressuring, threatening, shaming will you accept before you compromise your child’s long-term health, and say, “it’s just another shot?’
If you’d send your child down a freeway blindfolded, with earbuds in, it might not be a big deal for you to get them any one of the “popular” Covid vaccines.
It’s no longer enough for a parent to stand-up against moral failings of institutions and political systems…parents must now UNITE against them to protect their rights, and more importantly, their children!
I’d rather see a child do “alternative school” than be subject to experimental injection that even employees of Moderna, J & J, and Pfizer outright state they would not accept for themselves! Sterility, headaches, kidney damage, blood clots, enlarged heart are only a few of the side-effects now being linked to hastily “approved” Covid vaccines.
I urge you to look up Project Veritas on Instagram or FaceBook. Watch their undercover video footage of Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer employees making light of and ridiculing their company’s experimental RNA messenger concoction and its potential impact on those who are conned into accepting it.
You can choose to ignore whistleblower and insider info that drug-makers lobby and pay for you to see or hear. But who’s life are you gambling with? Your child’s! A special being whose natural immunity and demographic make viral survival much more of a certainty than hastily-manufactured and not-scientifically vetted injected substances. Regardless of conspiracy theory, right or left politics, religious or moral objection, truth from those who would publicly be mouthpieces FOR pharmaceutical companies, tells a different story.
Oh yeah, then there’s the fact that YOU are the parent! NOT your school, NOT your county health department, NOT the governor, NOT C.D.C. YOU are the voice and advocate who must intercede now for your child’s health and quality of life for next 50-80 years! Parenting is an unalienable right. DON’T let anyone take that form you or tell you otherwise. Stand tall and strong for your child if not for yourself. You are the only voice children may ever get in this life-altering decision. National school board associations and educational agencies are right now rallying politically against you, for government to override you.
Ask your school board members if they are in favor of mandated jabs to kids. If they aren’t, implore them to join you in standing for the children, to protect them, and ask them to band with other boards and districts that are saying to government, “You’re not gonna touch our kids against parents’ wishes!”

I support your right to not vaccinate your child from covid.
I don't feel watching Instagram or Facebook posts, that can easily be manipulated, should be your proof of the dangers of the covid vaccine.
I think you need to support the rights of school employees that feel unvaccinated children put their health in jeopardy.
Homeschooling your unvaccinated child rather than putting others at risk seems like the prudent option.

Thank you for a civil reply.
I am actually a school employee (not a contagio-phobic one, though) myself, who is dealing with physical injury from the first 2 doses of "Covid vax," speaking for and with the multitude of parents who are also appalled at the presumptuousness of government to interfere in their child's health, and thereby relegate those who choose against the vaccine to home schooling (segregation based on medical choice). While I have no faith or trust in the platforms or integrity of the founders of Facebook and Instagram, I do tend to see the more likely truth from a 3rd party researcher who has exposed by verifiable name and title on camera, then current (now former) scientists and executives at each of 3 major Big Pharma companies; I learned today that Project Veritas has now been "banned" from Instagram, I can only surmise, for exposing truth.
Anyway, based on my experience with the initial vax, and 3 friends with different life-altering issues now attributed to their jabs, parents need to know the possible and ongoing documented medical consequences of getting kids injected vs. natural immunity. And none should be coerced to take the shot, nor segregated for not doing so.

You will know the school boards and districts that have guts (and soul) and that authentically have children’s best interest at heart when they take a stand and write a letter to the governor and make a public stand in support of children (whom they serve) that they will not comply in supporting mandated vaccines for children. They choose the moral imperative to not take medical risks with harmful experimental substances being injected into other people’s children. San Joaquin County is standing up. Mark Twain is gathering survey data from parents and community. What will Calaveras and Vallecito do? Boards need to be less fearful of losing “Covid Money” than they are of risking the long-term after-effects of a vaccine that hasn’t even had a standard “trial period” yet! Parents have got to clamor through all the misinformed pro- vax noise!

I have a permanent disability from having received the vaccine. There’s no way I’ll be a pro-Vax anbassador for this chance to be taken on children’s lives.

Capistrano school district board has directed their superintendent to write a letter urging Newsom to rescind the mandate.
My only complaint with that is that “urging” is not enough. It needs to be made clear that parents, individuals and entities will not comply with planned genetic-altering of children!

Myo (muscle) card (heart) itis (inflammation). Not what I signed up for my adult heart when I got the jab. Parents, make sure you know what you’re signing up for, if you choose to comply with the government’s “suggestion” that you get your child vaccinated.
Check out “Children’s Health Defense,” if you are interested in hearing what medical experts and researchers are saying versus what your governor and health departments are saying…
