Caldor Fire 100 Percent Contained

South Lake Tahoe, CA...The Caldor Fire has been declared 100 percent contained as of today, Oct. 21, 2021. Now that the fire has reached full containment, the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) is reevaluating closure areas outside of the fire perimeter and is working to reopen these areas as soon as possible.

A Forest Closure Order for areas within and leading to the fire perimeter will remain in effect into summer 2022 or until immediate hazards can be minimized. Many areas previously closed to public access will open for use and enjoyment as soon as the new Forest Closure Order is finalized. The Forest Closure Order and map will be posted on the LTBMU home page at www.fs.usda.gov/ltbmu as soon as it becomes available.

The public is advised that significant hazards are still present within the Caldor Fire area including ongoing repair and restoration activities, crew activity, use of heavy equipment, fire weakened trees and smoldering pockets of fuel.

The following Desolation Wilderness trailheads that access south side areas within the Caldor Fire closure area remain closed to public use for both overnight and day use access. Those trailheads are Rockbound, Twin Lakes, Lyons, Pyramid Creek/Horsetail Falls, Ralston, and Echo Lakes. Trailheads on the north side of Desolation Wilderness are open for both overnight and day use access.

Enhanced fire restrictions remain in effect for all National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin through Nov. 30, 2021. The Fire Restriction Forest Order can be viewed on the Forest Order webpage at go.usa.gov/xMXYK. Propane appliances with an on/off switch are permitted with a valid CA Campfire Permit.

As a reminder, closures on the Eldorado National Forest remain in effect within the Caldor Fire perimeter. For more information about the Eldorado National Forest, visit their website at www.fs.usda.gov/eldorado.

    I recall Newsome defeated Cox.
    Newsome defeated Elder.
    Newsom defeated the recall.
    You want another recall election?
Put up the money, or shut up.

Precipitation about to make fire season a thing of the past.
Hoping open burning will be allowed in the next couple weeks.
