The 1st Annual Calaveras County Economic Summit By~ John Hamilton
Angels Camp, CA....If you did not have a chance to attend or catch our "Live" streaming of the Economic Summit that took place on Friday, we now have the replay up for your viewing pleasure.....The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce, together with the County of Calaveras and the City of Angels sponsored the 1st Annual Calaveras County Economic Revitalization Summit, a first time historic event, and the beginning of a county-wide ongoing design process. After months of planning, just over 150 of the best and brightest of our local minds met, strategized, planned, broke bread together and listened to some great speakers. Most of our current Supervisors and many department personell, Business Leaders, The City of Angels Camp management team, Educators and more were on hand. It was an all day event starting with the first speaker, Steve Art ,who is the economic development director for Lincoln CA. In recent years Lincoln was one of the fastest growing cities in the US....
The California Business Minute's Tim Johnson
After the first speech the attendees broke into groups for the breakout sessions. The sessions included: Tourism, Ag & Natural Resources, Retail, Industry & Emerging Tech, Professional Services, Infrastructure & Quality of Life.
We tried to spend a few minutes in each group and we were impressed. There was good back and forth and even some participants who were initially skeptical of the process found some new ideas and new ways of think about economic development in our area.
It also reinforced at least for me the diverse, energetic and vibrant group of business people we have in our area. From new businesses to the existing engines or our economy will no doubt emerge from our current blahs better than ever.
Tim Johnson delivered the post lunch Keynote that everyone interested in the economic future of Calaveras County should watch. In Tim's previous stints in the City Manager's office in San Diego and also in the Yuba City areas they set some audacious goals and achieved them. Set Measurable goals and implement, implement, analyze and implement.
Local State Farm Agent and Chamber Board Member Steve Hayward masterfully handled the MC duties for the day. When the afternoon sessions were completed the moderators took the stage and brought their findings to the group. Valley Springs Businessman Jeff Davidson delivered the closing comments.
