Matt Cullen Trio Swings into Mountain Ranch July 2nd!
Mountain Ranch, CA....The versatile Matt Cullen Trio will bring its repertoire of music from the 1940‘s and ‘50’s to the Mountain Ranch Park on Wednesday, July 2, as part of the Calaveras Arts Council’s “Music in the Parks.” The free event starts at 6:30 pm, and folks should bring their own chairs and picnics. All three musicians live in the Highway 4 corridor. Cullen is the drummer and vocalist who claims the trio “plays the kind of music with words you can....
understand.” On guitar is Don McDowell, who is new to the area but has many years of experience elsewhere. From Arnold to the Bay Area, McDowell and his guitars are well known, In addition to playing with the Matt Cullen Trio, he is a member of the Columbia College Big Band with Rod Harris and the D & K Trio and well.
Kim Manuel is on bass, an instrument she’s played since elementary school “because my mom had a station wagon!” She studied mainly classical music, with some jazz, when she attended college at Stanislaus and San Jose State. Discovering jazz and improvisation came later with the help of The Vintage Jazz led by the late Dick Bojarski. Manuel can play almost any style of music – Dixieland, Big Band, Bluegrass, Cajun and classical. She performs with small orchestras, such as the Mother Lode Friends of Music Orchestra.
The Mountain Ranch Community Park, which has lots of shade, picnic tables, bleachers, and a dance area, is located at the corner of Mountain Ranch Road and Whiskey Slide Roads, about 7 miles from San Andreas. A green grassy ballfield is adjacent for kids to play on. Stark Realty and Mountain Ranch Realty are the major sponsors of tonight’s program. The park’s snack bar will be open offering a menu of many surprises….think hotdogs and ice cream. Next week, get ready for western swing when the Stardust Cowboys head to Greenhorn Creek.
