Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital's Summer Health Career Camp was a Learning Success By ~ John Hamilton
San Andreas, CA...The inaugural Summer Health Career Camp kicked off this last week at Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital in San Andreas. A good sized group participated in 4 days of comprehensive, immersive job shadowing, training and hands on instruction for local Juniors & Seniors interested in a career in Health Care. The week finished off with a CPR Certification Class and student/parent luncheon. A good looking group of our next health care professionals and Nurse Gates and her high tech practice patient
expand it next year to a full summer long camp that would host a different group of kids each week.
We also asked the students if they planned on following a health care career path after their week of exposure a large percentage of them indicated they would.
Our hats off to MTSJ for this and other programs they have instituted these past couple of years. They are making great efforts to promote local high paying career opportunities and are really reaching out to those deciding their future plans.
Nurse Gates also showed us one of the hospital's new instructional dummies that they use in their classwork. On it they can practice and train for all sorts of emergency events. They can practice Code Blues, Starting IVs, Intubation's, Administering Drugs and more.
