Angel Auction Raises Thousands of Dollars for Two Respected Non-Profits on Saturday Eve ~By Hanna Alldrin
Angels Camp, CA.... Last night the Angel Auction raised thousands of dollars to help fund the new the new digital mammography machine for Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Foundation and also for the Calaveras Arts Council. The red and white wine reception started at 5:30 yesterday evening at Camps Restaurant at Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. “Mediterranean Mystique” was the theme that has been selected for this year’s Angel Auction, a benefit for two respected non-profits, the Calaveras Arts Council and Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation’s campaign to fund new digital mammography machine. Last year the theme was a tropical oasis, making the "Mediterranean Mystique" a fantastic theme change. The outstanding and beautiful Angel Auction watercolor was painted and donated by Maren Sampson....
When guests arrived a pre auction reception gave interested buyers a sample time to preview the 22 live auction items and bid on the 20 silent auction items.
Mediterranean style appetizers and tapas was created and served by the Camps Restaurant staff. A delicious Mediterranean style dinner was served at 7:00pm followed by the exciting Live Auction, conducted by Rose Backs of Stokes Auctioneering. MC for the evening was Larry Cornish from Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital.
Live entertainment was provided by the talented Spanish Guitarist, Hilario Gonzales.
Not only did guest get to bid on beautiful art, local wines from our area were also auctioned off. The wine in the auction included a Super Case representing members of the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, a double magnum of Rodney Strong, and a double magnum of Indian Rock 2005 Red.
Some of the experience packages included an English High Tea for up to 12, a wine and cheese evening with Judy Creighton, a bundle of fun activities donated by members of the Calaveras Visitors Bureau, a week at a villa in Cabo, a day of Calaveras history with Judith Marvin, golf and dinner for four at Greenhorn Creek, and many other intriguing only-in-Calaveras activities.
Names of a few of the artists donating original work include: Peggi Kroll-Robert, Lura Francis, Karen O’Neill, Dale Laitinen, Maren Sampson, John Johannsen, and Ruth Morrow. A 14k gold natural Australian opal and diamond pendant was specially created and donated by Firefall Jewelers.
Guests who bought one of the 100 keys to unlock the Treasure Chest had the chance to win a vacation for two, airfare and lodging in Barcelona, or a $3,000 cash value.
The four major sponsors of the fundraiser were Diede Construction, Aire Serve, Mark Twain Health Care District, and Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Corporate Board. An additional contribution was donated by the Kautz Family of Ironstone Vineyards.
Thank you to all who attended the annual event and helped raise money for a local community and to help improve our medical care.
