Calaveras Community Severe Blood Shortage Blood Drive is Tuesday, May 25th

San Andreas, CA...Vitalant (formerly BloodSource) will host the Calaveras Community blood drive to meet the community’s need for blood and blood products. There is currently a critical need for all blood types especially type O blood. The blood drive is sponsored by the Calaveras Community Foundation.

To ensure sufficient social distancing donors are encouraged to make an appointment by calling Vitalant at 866-822-5663 or go to donors.vitalant.org, Advanced Search and use blood drive code SMFM399. Walk-ins will be accommodated if space allows.

All donors are required to wear a mask or face covering. Also there is no deferral if donors have received a COVID-19 vaccine as long as they know which vaccine was administered.

As a small token of thanks donors will receive a $5 Amazon gift card which can be redeemed via email. Also Vitalant will test all blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies.

The Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has just celebrated 20 years of service to residents of Calaveras county. Since the CCF was founded, it has given away over $2.6 million to a variety of local organizations. The CCF annually provides funding for dozens of scholarships and last year awarded over $182,000 in grants to well deserving charities. Seniors programs, food banks, etc. are typical grant winners. The CCF is now proud to sponsor and support the Calaveras Community Blood drives.

A huge thank you to Bob Mariani who started the blood drive 17 years ago in support of a dear friend who needed multiple blood transfusions. With Bob’s dedication the blood drives continued to be a wonderful opportunity for Calaveras County community members to have a convenient and fun way to donate blood. During the past 17 years the blood drives have collected over 4,500 pints of blood and introduced over 1,100 community members to the lifesaving gift of blood donation.

Does it matter if you have drugs in your blood as long as you didn't shoot them up? Serious question.

Pretty sure they test the blood to verify the type and platelets it contains. They do check for contamination I know.

Well I am "0" and would like to donate, but San Andreas is to far and afternoons are never good. If they did one in Angels in the morning...that is a different story.
