Central Sierra/Hwy 4 Fishing Report for June 17th, 2008~From Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods

Lake Alpine is still producing some big rainbows. The dock is now in and the fishing is excellent. Make sure to call ahead as it does get very windy there. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, and Rapala's behind a small dodger tipped with a nightcrawler or try a flasher/nightcrawler combo. The Lodge will be open and they will be renting cabins. You can contact the lodge at 209-753-6358. Fly fishermen should try woolly buggers, flying ants, and sparrow nymphs. Bank fishermen should try nightcrawlers, Gulp Power Bait, Gulp Nightcrawlers, floating Power Eggs, and salmon eggs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, and Rooster Tails.....

The road to SPICER is now open. The lake level is up on the ramp and the dock is now in the water. Bank fishermen have had success using Gulp Eggs, Gulp Power Bait, Gulp Nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, nightcrawlers, and floating Power Eggs. Fly fishermen have been using woolly buggers, and sparrow nymphs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Rooster Tails, and Panther Martin spinners. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, and Rapala's tipped with a nightcrawler behind a small dodger. Hobart Creek is not open until JULY 1ST 2008!

Mosquito Lake has now thawed. No report yet of fish being caught.

The North Fork of the Stanislaus has been fishing great.Baitcasters will probably have the best luck split-shotting salmon eggs, floating Power Eggs, Crickets, or inflated worms with a 15 to 20 inch leader. Fly casters can try bead head nymphs, ants, and bead head woolly buggers with a sink tip line. Lure casters can try Panther Martin spinners, Rooster Tails, Rapala's or Kastmasters.

We had our Father's Day Derby this past weekend and it was a success. Before I post the winners from this years derby there are some people I would like to thank. First I would like to thank Sierra Pacific Industries Steve Kafka. They donated 1,000.00 dollars that we used for trout plants. I would like to thank Mark Haynes from Eagle Claw for their donations of samples packs and assorted tackle. Mike Koepke from Pure Fishing for donating Berkley trout bait samples. Woody Wood from SPA Group for donating Shimano combos and Gama line. Darrin Houks from Shakespeare for donating Ugly Sticks and Pflueger Tackle packs. Jeanette from the Outhouse for her donation of a beautiful cabin sign. Jim at Arnold Auto Supply for donating a set of tools. The entire Lions Club of Arnold took up a collection from their members and came up with over $125.00 which went to prizes for all the winners. Stan Sagi from Outwest Marketing donated sleeping bags, knives and a nice rod. Steve Goolsby donated kids combos and Sponge Bob games for the kids division. Mark Vejar donated St. Croix hats and assorted tackle. With out all of your help this Derby would not be possible. I can't thank you all enough. Now for the results.
