"The Tipsy Chicks" of Arnold Take Home Viewers Choice Award at Ironstone Vineyards BBQ Competition! Pictures & Video Enclosed
Murphys, CA...Ironstone Vineyards put on another great event on Sunday! They held their 2nd Annual BBQ Competition which was hosted by Executive Chef James Lehman. There were approximately 22 teams vying for the BBQ Queens and Kings of the Weber for the Day! "The Tipsy Chicks", a team of gals from Arnold, took home the "Viewers Choice" Competition. For pork butt, "Pork Purveyors" of Murphys takes it, baby back ribs goes to "Spoke Benders" of Vacaville, and beef brisket, "Team Ramirez" from Tracy, CA. The judging was done by James and 8 Blind Judges, whom were also local food connoisseur's. There were three judges for each category. The categories were Best of Beef Brisket, Best of Pork Baby Back Ribs, Best of Pork Butt and Viewers Choice....

best of team display. Each team consisted of one captain and 4 other team members. They all had a 10 x 10 space in which all of their cooking was prepared. The teams really got into it as they each fun had team names, decorated their space and even gave samples with sauces out to the crowd visiting for the day.
Each team turned in a total of 10 portions of each meat type to the judge’s panel. A portion which consisted of 1 rib, one bit sized slice of brisket and pork butt. All of the recipes used could not come from any cookbook.
Judging: the following criteria will be used to judge all meats:
• Flavor
• Tenderness
• Appearance
• Aroma
• Doneness
Judging Criterion:
Judging will be based on a point scale of 1 to 5. The team with the most points at the end of judging was deemed the winner of that category.
5 Excellent
4 Very Good
3 Good
2 Acceptable
1 Not acceptable
Awards given were:
• First place in each meat cooking category: Gift certificate for one case Ironstone Vineyards core wine & $100
• First place – viewers choice, best team display: Gift certificate for 6 bottles of Ironstone Core wines.
There was also beer and wine for sale of course to enjoy your sampling with along with a raffle.
The Tipsy Chicks was one of the two all-female teams entered this year, and it was their first year in any type of competition. They were thrilled with the Viewer's Choice award and plan to work on their recipes and enter again next year. Their team offered raffle prizes and lots and lots of taste samples for the crowd. Prizes were donated by Sequoia Woods Country Club, The Highway Cafe, Custom Fireplace & BBQs in Dublin, and of course The Chicks themselves.
The Tipsy Chicks are Sheryl Holshevnikoff, Bev Ravazza, Kelly Russell, and Jane McKeever (Jane owns the Highway Cafe on Highway 4).
This has become quite a popular event at Ironstone Vineyards so get your grills ready now for next year!
