Volunteers Install Shade Sail Poles at Murphys Community Park This Morning
Murphys, CA.....A dozen volunteers gathered in Murphys Community Park this morning, Monday June 2nd, to erect five telephone poles that will support a series of shade sails being installed to provide cover from the hot summer sun for youngsters playing on the park’s climbing and sliding apparatus......
With the help of a boom truck from Distinctive Metals, the group set the poles in the previously drilled holes. They completed this phase of the sail project in two hours. The installation of the sails will come later.
The Murphys Community Club has taken on this project, costing in excess of $20,000, because the extensive play equipment gets so hot in the summertime that it cannot be used safely.
Viticulturist Mark Skenfield, a Community Club board member, is in charge of the project and supervised Monday’s work party. Among those taking part were Supervisor Tom Tryon, winemaker Scott Klan, and former Community Club president Roy Creager.
