Special Preview of Murphys Creek Theatre Summer Season is June 26
Murphys, CA....If you’re a member of the Calaveras Arts Council, then you’re invited to a specially-priced Preview Party of Murphys Creek Theatre’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” on Thursday, June 26. For a rock-bottom price of $10 each, Arts Council members can catch the very first showing of this most beloved of William Shakespeare’s comedies set in a 1980’s trailer park. Yes, that’s right… it’s safe to say you’ll never see Shakespeare quite like this. For non-members who wish to attend this special preview, the ticket price will be $15.00......
In order to be a part of this preview, just show up at the Cordelia B. Stevenot Performing Arts Center, outside of Murphys, to purchase your tickets. A list of current Arts Council members will be at the gate, which opens at 6:30 pm for picnicking, with 8:00 pm as the curtain time.
The regular run of “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” is from June 27th through July 26th featuring one of Shakespeare’s most unforgettable characters, Sir John Falstaff, at his scheming best. Desperate to pay his way out of a scandalous debt, Falstaff contrives to seduce the wives of Masters Page and Ford, in order to blackmail money out of the two shamed wives. However, Falstaff has severely underestimated the wiles of these clever dames, who quickly discover his plot and set out to turn the tables against him! With jealous husbands, clever ladies, a meddlesome matchmaker, and a virtuous daughter in search of true love, all set against an outrageous backdrop of a contemporary trailer park.
The Murphys Creek Theatre chose the Calaveras Arts Council to host the Preview because of the council’s long-standing dedication to cultural enrichment in Calaveras County, and all Preview proceeds will benefit the Calaveras Arts Council.
Wine and light refreshments will be available for purchase at the venue. Seating is festival style, so bring low-backed chairs. A limited number of Adirondack chairs are available for rent. While families are welcome to attend, this play is not recommended for children under the age of nine. Guests are advised to bring a sweater, as temperatures cool later in the evening. Directions to the Cordelia B. Stevenot Performing Arts Center are available at www.murphyscreektheatre.org. Join the party June 26 as two treasured Calaveras County establishments converge to celebrate a night of love, laughter, and Theatre Under the Stars.
