Latest News on the Arnold RIM Trail and Upcoming Event This Weekend~By Steve Lauterbach

Arnold, CA....Hello folks interested in the Arnold Rim Trail. First, thank you to the intrepid residents of Millwoods who came out on May 24th to walk in the rain for an hour to study where the Arnold Rim Trail could eventually be potentially accessed from near your homeowners association if you so choose. The rain could not put a damper on the spirits of those who participated or on the beauty of the forest......

Thanks as always to everyone who is working in a spirit of community collaboration to make the Arnold Rim Trail a possibility, and doing so in a careful way that takes into consideration, and finds solutions for, concerns that are being brought to our attention by our neighbors here in Arnold.

Below are announcements about a couple of upcoming meetings.

If you know of anyone who would like to start receiving info on the Arnold RIM Trail, please have them log onto www.arnoldrimtrail.org and complete the contact form.

- Please mark your calendars for two important upcoming dates -

1) Arnold Rim Trail Maintenance Day, Saturday, May 31st, 8:30 am,
gather at US Forest Service Office in Hathaway Pines

Lonnie Allison, the Forest Service Trails Coordinator, is hosting an Arnold Rim Trail work day on the 31st of May. We will meet at the Calaveras Ranger Station in Hathaway Pines at 8:30AM and car pool from there. Everyone should bring water, snacks, gloves, boots, and favorite garden work tools. USFS will have shovels, loppers and other trail tools. Lonnie would like to get an idea of how many will attend. Please RSVP by calling his office anytime at 795-1381, ext 309, and leaving a message. You may also send him an email with you RSVP at: lallison@fs.fed.us

If you are unable to RSVP, please show up by 8:30 am anyway; these trail work days are loads of fun. If you haven't participated in one yet, this is your chance to find out why everyone has such a good time. Attached are a couple of pictures from previous trail work days. Please pass this invitation along to others who might be interested in getting outdoors and helping with trail building, restoration, and maintenance.

2) Arnold Rim Trail Committee Meeting, Tuesday, June 17th, 5:30 pm-7:15pm,
US Forest Service Office, Hathaway Pines

The Arnold Rim Trail Committee meets regularly the third Tuesday evening of the month (unless announced otherwise). The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 17th, 5:30-7:15pm.

Minutes to follow for the recent May meeting, but briefly at that meeting we decided on the types of signs, posts, and kiosks that will be used on the Arnold Rim Trail. We calculated a dollar amount for the Prop 40 application. We began to consider a "by-line" for the trail. We also discussed the feedback we received from the citizens of our community about the Rim Trail at the April 22nd meeting. We decided to invite the communities of Lakemont Pines, Meadowmont, and Millwoods to consider naming a representative to regularly attend the Arnold Rim Trail committee meetings. We learned that Meadowmont had already taken this step.

At this June meeting we will continue to work on Trail signage; the "by-line"; and establishing contacts with CCWD, SPI, White Pines Park committee, the community of White Pines, CalTrans, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, and undoubtedly others.
