68 Year Old Modesto Man Perished in Motorcycle vs Big Rig Collision on Hwy 120

Jamestown, CA...On September 5, 2020, at approximately 11:50AM a 68-year-old male from Modesto, CA stopped his 1999 Harley Davidson Motorcycle on the north shoulder of eastbound State Route 120, west of Green Springs Road to assist a disabled motorcycle. After assisting the disabled motorcycle, the rider started his motorcycle and entered the eastbound lanes of State Route 120. At that same time, 63-year-old Erik Roen of Knights Ferry, CA was driving his 2012 Kenworth Big Rig, while pulling a flatbed trailer carrying a bulldozer, eastbound on State Route 120, west of Green Springs Road in the #2 lane. The motorcycle rider traveled into the #2 lane directly in front of the Big Rig. As a result, the front of the Big Rig crashed into the motorcycle.

After the crash, the vehicles came to rest on the south shoulder of State Route 120. Life saving measures were performed on the rider however, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The eastbound #2 lane was closed for approximately 2 hours.

It was determined the rider was wearing his helmet at the time of the collision and alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor. The identity of the rider is being withheld pending family notification.

Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends for strength during this most difficult time. AND also for the biker who was broken down that he was trying to help AND the big rig driver - both will live with this forever even though they were not at fault.

To the last three comments: How disrespectful on your part. How would you like it if you were the biker or member of the biker's family or the truck driver for that matter. It just shows how some people are very immature in regards to making comment like these on these articles. BTW, I know a few 1% er's myself and I don't think they would appreciate these comments either! They are REAL people!

Thanks for addressing the issue of respect when someone dies accidentally. Someone’s family member passed ( and he was trying to help a stuck bike ; always a sign of a good guy )

Say something with some empathy or say nothing at all
Be safe and take your time with everything especially when riding a 600 lb bike.
Condolences to his friends And family.

All, just play nice. First thanks for the nice comments. Second there are several types of bikers:
1. Young - Fast and ....
2. Old - Slow and ....
3. Mid age - Dreaming of the first, headed for the second.

Lets play nice and have a good ride.
