PG&E Just Issued Potential PSPS Outage for Our Area for September 7th - 9th

Arnold, CA...Many of you may have woken to a message from PG&E. Ours was as follows...Due to current weather forecasts, your area is currently under a Watch for a Public Safety Power Shutoff. Current weather forecasts, including high winds and dry conditions, may require us to turn off your power to help prevent a wildfire. ESTIMATED SHUTOFF START: Monday, September 7th, 11:00 PM - 3:00 AM. Shutoff times may be delayed if winds arrive later than forecast. We expect weather to improve by 6:00 AM on Wednesday, September 9th. After weather has improved, we will inspect equipment before restoring power.

Camp Fire 1912 Insulator Hook
Posted on: 2020-09-06 11:01:39   By: Anonymous

PG&E knows it has in the past, up to today neglected necessary equipment replacement. Instead of performing equipment upgrades, it gave stockholders high dividends, and huge salaries to company brass.

It will take years to replace all the old equipment, if they do it at all.

The insulator hook that failed and caused the Camp fire that wiped Paradise off the map was from it's instillation date from 1912 when the transmission line was built. A person living near the transmission line called PG&E on the Sunday evening before the hook failed. She reported arcing, The company said we will have a crew there tomorrow. The Camp fire started before the crew arrived. This from court testimony. This is pure negligence. Criminal negligence. So many have died, Billions lost in property damage to economies due to PG&E greed.

PG&E still has not provided the necessary right-of way clearances, and equipment updates to allow the customers to have a safe reliable electric service.

The answer is to end the private for profit scheme , and make the infrastructure safe by the State utility with full safety and maintenance a requirement.
Once again, we see that the "free enterprise" model has failed . It has a place, but not in many critical parts of our lives. Profits over people's lives is not acceptable.

If you believe that the state could run a Utility Agency, better, cheaper, more efficiently than what is available now I would love to see it.
Do you not drive? Have you not been to any state parks?
Sorry, but when Cal Trans pays the lowest bidder to repave 88 and the road is good for 1 summer. But we have to deal with it for 10 more years. Not exactly the most efficient Use of resources.
We are lucky they didn’t walk away. Who would want to own a utility company in a state with the regulations, forest management, wildfire conditions, and inverse condemnation laws that exist here?
Obviously there isn’t one. They could have bought the Whole company for 5 billion. And then pay a billion a year in state property taxes like PG&E does to all the counties it has property in.

The lowest bidder was the ones that tried to shove through the asphalt plant in Valley Springs

The shoving happened when the county allowed homes to be built around the industrial area there. Home taxes were more important to the county than jobs and industry. Valley Springs should have remained industrial not homes for Valley transplants with their urban sprawl into our county.

SMUD is a prime example of what a municipal utility model can do.

Smud is one of the highest rated utilities in America. It has a very high reliability rating and has some of the lowest rates compared to many other utilities including investor owned .

There are other examples of non investor owned businesses that are successes, with happy employees with good health care and paid vacations. Many are COOPs , with the employees owning the companies, with the added bonus of profit sharing .

Well regulated capitalism is a usable model, however as history shows the businesses are always attempting to reduce regulation, which always ends up in problems.

For contrast in Germany, a company with more than 100 employees, must have 1/2 of the corporate board be employees. These companies are successful with good employee morale. They also are organized union companies. The union boss is one of the board members.

You left out the cost and wasted dollars spent on renewable energy. Money that should have gone to infrastructure improvements.

      Decommissioning Rancho Seco saved Billions.

Clean renewable generation pays much better than fossil or nuclear fueled power.

Germany's economy living standards, health care , employment and Covid response showed Dump's Covid response was ignorant, criminal at best.

The statements of the above posts above shows a denial of facts.
