Calaveras County Closure of Businesses Due to COVID-19

San Andreas, CA...On July 13, 2020, Governor Newsom announced the statewide closure of the following businesses because of statewide increases in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and intensive care unit utilization:
 All brewpubs, breweries, bars and pubs (indoor and outdoor)
 Dine-in restaurants (indoor)
 Wineries and tasting rooms (indoor)
 Family entertainment centers (indoor)
 Movie theaters (indoor)
 Zoos and museums (indoor)
 Card rooms (indoor)

These actions are in effect until further notice and these closures apply to local guests, tourists and other visitors. Outdoor operations may be conducted under a tent, canopy, or other sun shelter, but only as long as the sides are not closed and there is sufficient outdoor air movement. All indoor operations for the businesses on the closure list are prohibited and activities like check-in should be relocated outdoors. The exception is restroom access. Restrooms may be indoors, however, face coverings are required and physical distancing protocols should be enforced.

“In our experience, most businesses want to do the right thing, so we start by making sure the business understands the restrictions,” said Dr. Kelaita. All industry or sector guidance documents that have been issued to date, including all infectious control measures outlined in those guidance documents, including the use of face coverings, which is mandated statewide apply in outdoor settings, and thus must be adhered to.

In an effort to control the spread of COVID-19 the State has developed data metrics that they monitor for each county. These metrics track local disease transmissions rates, hospitalizations, testing, etc. The State monitors each county’s data and places those counties not meeting the data standards on the County Monitoring List. Counties on the
County Monitoring List receive targeted engagement and technical support from the California Department of Public Health and are required to close certain additional businesses for a specified amount of time.

“Currently, Calaveras is not currently on the monitoring list,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. “However, one metric that we have to keep a close eye on, given we’ve had a significant increase in cases recently, is what’s called the case rate. It’s the number of new COVID-19 cases in a given population. We want to stay below 100 new cases per 100,000 population in the last 14 days. To keep us below the state’s requirements, people must continue to stay home as much as they can, avoid crowded places, confined spaces, and close contact with people not from your
household,” said Dr. Kelaita.

Information about closures can be found on the State’s website at:
https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Guidance-on-Closureof-
Sectors-in-Response-to-COVID-19.aspx
Additionally, guidance for each sector should continue to be implemented for all outdoor activities. Guidance documents can be found here:

Murphys Hotel is at it again!

Guess we can’t name names, but we can certainly name businesses. Murphys Hotel is planning on not following the law and won’t be closing. The owner, whose name I guess were not supposed to use anymore, is posting on his Facebook page that he won’t be closing the bar or restaurant.
Apparently the owner continues to believe Murphys residents are collateral damage for him making a quick buck off the tourists, who shouldn’t be here anyway right now.

Hey dummy. . . There is outdoor seating at the Murphys Hotel. Do your research before throwing a local small business under the bus.

        You Murphys mask-shamers are ridiculous.

Don’t need to. He has outdoor seating and thus is able to stay open.

Also, unlike you Murphys mask-shamers, I actually want our local business to weather this storm.

The first time he should not have stayed open. Now many have outdoor areas and spacing. The problem now is that Amador and Calaveras are being punished because of cities and other areas overwhelming hospitals. We are not doing that!!! We should be able to police our county line boundaries. Stop anyone from entering without a proof of full time residency ID,

Vary scary that you want to run all around and bring the virus back to your community and family. It's people exactly like you that ruin things for everyone else.

When they shut down the Bay Area those citizens should have had to stay there as ordered, many ran right out to our Foothills. That happening was just unconscionable. How would you suggest they be made to stay home other than checking ID at borders?

It just needs a new local owner that wants to historically renovate and improve it. It should be the hub of the community, not creating divide by working against everyone else.

That’s exactly why we’re heading into full lockdown #2. No one is thinking about the community. How is wearing a mask to prevent further lockdowns NOT helping you? The every man for himself mentality doesn’t work during a pandemic.

China has been wearing masks for generations and they still got it. . .

If masks work, why do we need to close our economy? If they don’t work, why do we need to wear them?

God you’re dumb. You bitch and complain about how the masks trample your oh-so-precious liberty and freedom of speech (it doesn’t, by the way) but then you concurrently complain about your businesses being shut down due to covid.
If you can’t see how social distancing and wearing masks appropriately could keep your businesses from being shut down in the first place, you’re too stupid to run a business.

Just because it's outside makes it legal. Just because I had one beer and got into an accident even though it wasn't my fault is legal right? Idiotic thinking is why we are in this situation. Business owners need to think or get sued. It's coming I guarantee it if you can't think what is best for the community.

What is it that makes people stupid? Do you not understand? People getting out is what caused this to happen. The few non believers or
Those that think this is a joke is what is ruining it for everyone else. Let's round them up and put them in camp where they don't have to wear masks and do what they want. Let THEM slowly die off.Just stay away from everyone who takes this seriously.

It's ridiculous and just plan irresponsible. It's time to start discouraging the tourists from coming up here. It doesn't matter anyway, a complete shutdown in coming back to what happened in March.

Why can’t you i d i o t s actually read the order before throwing our local businesses under the bus?

All establishments you mentioned have OUTDOOR dining.

How about an apology? That takes a backbone so that will never happen. . .

If you don’t like it, maybe you can move back to wherever you came from. I’m sure it’s much better there. . .

If counties were to be isolated no travel in or out, all business and events could continue. There is a massive amount of people on the move, both by ground and air. As far as Calaveras Dr Kietla should get out and take a look at White Pines Lake, Alpine Lake, Flying Acres Lake, Natural Bridges on the weekend!! After that tell us all about what We need to do!! Maybe at that point he would figure out what HE needs to do!!

You are the dumb ____. We had many out of the ordinary deaths of older people at the end of last year. That is when the virus first hit here. It has mutated to not being as deadly today. California was ground zero for this virus in the US because it has the largest population of Chinese outside of China. Unfortunately large numbers of Bay Area residents have second homes here, and have sought to build private enclaves just for them into our county. They have no particular attachment to the county or people here, and do not ever care to.

Welcome to socialism in the works...literally handing over and giving up your rights to a dictator...seriously read the numbers and get educated per cdc hospital Percentage in the U.S. we are not at capacity due to “Covid”! Numbers are extremely low when you do the math “Correctly” people are going to die of lost businesses and starvation. Let out all the convicts and put the law abiding citizens in quarantine give me a break! Conditioning you to stop knowing your neighbors and friends causing everyone to go against each other. Over masks!....Exactly what the governor wants.....have you forgotten that $900 million dollar purchase of masks the governor did months ago denied by the FDA for being defective!, A week before the mandate they were “suddenly approved” how does that work ? So now defective masks are floating around.our healthcare facilities? dependent on assistance from the government is exactly where we will be!. They stopped counting influenza/flu cases when Covid appeared..you will test positive for the anti-body even if you had it months ago...and that is considered a positive test so Of course numbers are going up Especially for those without symptoms ....but deaths are extremely down. Maybe we should shut down our non essential governor putting everyone in debt and isolation! The fact that I know some healthcare facilities/hospitals (not all) have incorrectly documented Covid as a diagnosis or on a death certificate makes it hard to trust the system anymore. Read the numbers and do the math.I do not wish Illness on anyone however I’m concerned about how this is becoming more and more politically driven and a form of control. Can you trust your healthcare facilities to be truthful the next test you have in regards to the flu/Cold etc... or will it now be diagnosed COVID-19.

The division, we will never be standing together for the greater good ever again in the U.S.A.

Our very own local communities are today divided by those coming here seeking to destroy the tight bonds and togetherness of yesterday. They want to destroy any reminders of the past and history that actual community members hold dear to heart.

The revolution will be starting in the small towns. We will be needing to come together to fight against this invasion.of our lives and home.

Yes, the small towns will become an important force. For change. Our young people are smarter than you give credit.
This isn't about BLM rather about the division amongst our citizens that feel they are no longer being listened to.
Whether it's young vs old, white vs non white, rich vs poor, tech savvy vs no tech strengths, red vs blue, conservative vs liberal.
        We have no leadership.
The end of the American way of life will change for the better when we get leaders that listen to ALL the people. Not just their fans.

There is plenty of blame to go around.
From what I see it started with our President. If he knew in January, why wasn't something proactively done?
Because Trump decides things on how his instincts guide his decisions.
Now, the most responsible person on the Covid19 task force is being silenced.
Pelosi advocating people get out and visit the Chinatown businesses in February? Irresponsible.
March and April were spent arguing over PPDs and ventilators and testing.
May showed us that states were willing to sacrifice their resident's health by reopening.
June and July have shown how Americans only care about themselves.
Those that wear masks and social distance are trying to keep themselves and others from becoming infected.
Those that don't wear masks and social distance are displaying their freedoms to express how they feel. No matter what the consequences are to themselves and others.
