Open Society Foundations Announce $220 Million for Building Power in Black Communities

New York, NY...To support this nation’s historic movement towards racial justice, the Open Society Foundations today is announcing investments totaling $220 million in emerging organizations and leaders building power in Black communities across the country, placing a bet on their ability to carry today’s momentum toward a better tomorrow. The largest share of this support—$150 million—will be through a set of five-year grants to Black-led justice organizations that helped to create and now sustain the momentum towards racial equality. Open Society’s response reflects our conviction that real progress requires sustained support over many years and letting leaders accountable to impacted communities shape the path forward.

“It is inspiring and powerful to experience this transformational moment in the racial justice movement,” said Open Society Foundations’ President Patrick Gaspard. “We are honored to be able to carry on the vital work of fighting for rights, dignity, and equity for oppressed people the world over started by our founder and chair, George Soros.

“We recognize that the struggle to dismantle systemic racism is an ongoing one; it has existed from the dawn of the republic to the present day, and is embedded in every level of government and in our penal and justice systems. But the power surge of people who have taken to the streets to demand that this nation do better—people of all ages, from all backgrounds, and in every corner of this country—gives hope to us all.”

“The success of this movement, the largest in U.S. history, will be measured over years, not weeks, and we cannot say that Black lives matter and not make a multi-year commitment to a strategy set by and centering Black leaders and organizations who changed America’s sense of what is possible,” said Tom Perriello, executive director of Open Society-U.S.

Among the recipients of this set of investments are emergent groups such as Black Voters Matter and Circle for Justice Innovations. Others are more established forces for civil rights, such as Repairers of the Breach and the Equal Justice Initiative. Some are fighting for an end to policing as we know it, and others are fighting for access to the ballot. Collectively, these organizations make up a vital ecosystem of justice, one that’s poised to harness the extraordinary energy of today and ensure it results in meaningful reform.

“This is the time for urgent and bold action to address racial injustice in America,” said Alex Soros, deputy chair of the Open Society Foundations. “These investments will empower proven leaders in the Black community to reimagine policing, end mass incarceration, and eliminate the barriers to opportunity that have been the source of inequity for too long.”

Open Society will also make a series of substantial investments, totaling $70 million, in more immediate efforts to advance racial justice. These initiatives will include the following:

Investments in a set of cities as they reimagine public safety, moving beyond the culture of criminalization and incarceration, and aiming to create safe, healthy, and racially just communities. We will fund bold and promising strategies to these ends. Through financial support, advocacy, and technical assistance, we will partner with local governments and local organizations—seeking, among other things, to strengthen local expertise in understanding and navigating municipal budgets.

A further set of investments will go toward nurturing the civic engagement of young people, many of whom have engaged in activism for the first time in response to this extraordinary political moment in the history of our country. With summer internships cancelled in a job market ravaged by COVID-19, and high schools and colleges uncertain whether they’ll be able to welcome students back to campus in the fall, Open Society’s funding will create opportunities for students to enroll in internships and fellowships that focus on racial justice, democracy, organizing, and mentorship.

Support for ongoing efforts to fight voter suppression and disinformation, and ensure safe and secure elections, in the midst of the pandemic.

In the coming weeks, Open Society will be providing further information about these and other areas of investment, including support to emergent efforts to establish truth commissions and other tools to promote racial healing—as well as funding to improve conditions particularly for Black workers and other workers of color—as labor, racial, and social justice organizations prepare for a national “Strike for Black Lives” later this month.

“Sustaining this extraordinary momentum toward centering justice for Black lives is fundamental to getting our democracy on track,” said Gaspard. “We need to combine long-term commitments to this movement with near-term opportunities, to ensure that the millions who have stepped up to take action can see enough results to stay engaged.”

The Open Society Foundations has been working to advance racial justice in the United States for more than two decades. Founder and Chair George Soros began his philanthropic work in the United States in the 1990s, by challenging drug laws that unfairly target African Americans. Open Society launched its Racial Justice Initiative in 2003 and has steadily grown support for those addressing systemic inequality experienced by historically marginalized communities of color.

In subsequent years, the Foundations helped launch the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, investing nearly $20 million over several years, and gave $50 million to help the ACLU’s campaign to reduce mass incarceration. Last year, Open Society-U.S. invested $25 million in multiyear grants to state organizations led by, and accountable to, people of color, as well as $15 million to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

Soros makes money by crashing economies and profiting on currency manipulation. This is just Soros investing in and profiting on the pain of others. Do you really think he wants to help black people??

It’s private investment money. Don’t you umderstamd that? Are you the kind of people that don’t care that it is better than the Kock Brothers who spend millions to help trump and the super rich stay in control, and continue to fund efforts to allow coal, companies to pollute the waters and soils of coal country? You just have a bitch fit because it might help poor people? Pissed because private investors want to help Black people? But it’s ok for rich folks like the Kocks to wreck country communities, pay dirt wages to miners in unsafe conditions, and pay Republicans to do them favors in Congress. Jeez, quit the trump cult train.

Dump SS Shoots Portand Protester In Head

Dump said he would deploy a SS force, and has.
These are all post Iraq Afghanistan vets who are used to shooting people.

A single stand alone protester standing across the street of the courthouse in Portland was shot in the head after he kicked a tear gas canister back to the center of the street. Hardly a threatening move, yet seconds later, he was shot in the head by one of the Fed SS troops Dump deployed to Portland.

He was shot with a rubber coated bullet from the SS troops deployed in his head, he may lose one eye, and needs surgery for a fractured skull, he also has a brain drain to drain blood from his brain.

This was completely an over reaction from the SS troops Dump deployed around the country. Dump is going the way of Hitler and using SS troops to intimidate any opposition.

This is true fascism now in the USA.

If you support this , you need to ask yourself what kind of America do you want?

Do you support the racism and intimidation dictators use to divide and conquer an otherwise peaceful Republic, or do you support a Democracy with peaceful protesting and the ability to address your grievances as the Constitution states?

Young White Mother Executed By Black Lives Matter Mob for Allegedly Saying ‘All Lives Matter’
Posted on: 2020-07-13 12:26:45   By: Anonymous

A young white mother was murdered last week by a Black Lives Matter mob after she allegedly told them that “All Lives Matter.”

24-year-old Jessica Doty Whitaker was shot and killed in Indianapolis amid a confrontation with BLM thugs who were triggered when she told them “All Lives Matter.”

“According to the victim’s family, the shooting started with an argument over Black Lives Matter and language. Eventually the two sides separated and walked away from each other, until witnesses claim the killer opened fire from a nearby bridge and ran away,” Fox 59 reported last Monday.

“It was squashed and they went up the hill and left we thought, but they were sitting on St. Claire waiting for us to come under the bridge and that’s when she got shot,” said the victim’s fiancé Jose Ramirez.

Whitaker’s father Robert Doty told The Gateway Pundit that his daughter was shot in the head after responding to the BLM group’s “Black Lives Matter” chants.

Doty also said the mainstream media never bothered to reach out to him.

      From The Gateway Pundit:

Her father, Robert Doty, told the Gateway Pundit that the BLM supporters had walked by her and her fiance and said “Black Lives Matter,” to which Jessica responded that “All Lives Matter.”

The BLM activists had allegedly pulled out weapons during the argument, which prompted Ramirez to do the same. This lead to them backing off, but not for long.

“An argument started and guns came out, but they worked things out. Unfortunately, they didn’t drop it and waited for them to walk back through and she was shot in the head,” Doty told TGP.

Doty confirmed that neither CNN nor Fox News has reached out for information about the case, despite the murderer being on the loose.

Police are still searching for the suspects, and have released footage from the area.

A GoFundMe has been launched to help pay for Whitaker’s funeral and take care of her 3-year-old son.

This is a strange story. A deeper dive shows that this was at 3am, and both groups pulled guns on each other.

I'm not excusing a murder, that should be clear. But this story doesn't make the grand point you are implying it does.

OMG! The Government can do that?
How on earth can the Feds deploy SS Troops in someone's head and shoot them? Isn't this amazing how far we have come, so fast in the technology world?
Little tiny SS Troups somehow getting in a person's head and then shooting them?
This is like the Twilight Zone in the 21st century.

The concept of white privilege is more about how our system functions (or disfunctions), rather than your individual experience.
Also, not experiencing systematic racism is a privilege, but might not feel like much because you aren't seeing what you're missing.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "everything is about racism"?

I think people who have not been previosly heard are speaking about what they have been through. And many white people, especially those in power, are actually listening and trying to make positive changes. I don't think that work can be done if people don't discuss racism.

How weak and pathetic have we become??? Go back and look at those who have excelled and changed the world. They used the pain and odds against them as fuel. Do you think Jackie Robinson would have been as good if it was easy? No!! How about Jesse Owens?? Don't you think knowing he was shoving it in Hitler's face drove him to excel? Pain and obstacles are fuel to make everyone better.

It's not maintaining racism. How soon we forget that we defeated Hitler and removed real evil from this world. In a country of 330 million and 330 million phones there will always be plenty of examples of bad cops, bad people & unfair situations to share. How about we each work to make our own lives better? Not sexy but waaaaay more practical that spending our time complaining.

What exactly is Black Lives Matter? Is it a political party or a charity or a quasi terrorist operation? Who runs the thing, is it one person or do they have like a communist politburo?

Why would Bank of America give it a cool $1 billion dollars and other corporations and celebs kick in another $0.7 billion a few weeks ago? Where did the $1.7 billion go — is it in BLM's bank account or did they spend it on recruiting WHITE people? (All pics of BLM affairs show majorly WHITE people, just like ANTIFA and Occupy. Did all the ANTIFAists go over to BLM after ANTIFA was declared a terrorist org.)

Have they spent the money on charity for average Black people or did it go to arming up with AK47s, Molotov cocktails and Che Guevara tees? You can see why celebs would want to signal their social virtue by donating a munificent $1,000 (the cost of a few rails of coke) to radicals, but why would Bank of America and Amazon want to associate with total lunatics who advocate destroying statues of "White Jesus," defend pedophiles and go around assassinating random women who say, "All Lives Matter."

Gateway Pundit is not a credible news source. Neither is Fox.

If you rely on far right outlets for "news" you are fed propaganda.

If you want racist news you are in the right place with Fox and Gateway Pundit News Max, and other white supremacist sites.Hate radio pushes all descriptions of hate towards anything not White and Male.

If that's your thing, it's your right, you are in rare company with most of America wanting a tolerant society open to all equally in finance, in justice, and anything else.

Dumpers maybe 30% and declining, America 70% and rising more and more as Dump shows he is a buffoon and narcissistic mentally child only concerned with enriching himself and his Billionaire pals.

You are wrong . Poster was right. Most people in this country agree with that post. Majority of voters voted against trump in 2016, because they saw him what he is, a liar, cheat, megalomaniac. Since then even more people have come to see him as traitorous, obstructionist, seditious, and a threat to the rule of law, all a threat to our Constitution and national security.

Anti trump is not a cult. It is an American movement based on observable facts, trump’s own behavior and failures.

A cult is like idolatry, belief in something or someone , regardless of reality. Most Americans don’t fall for trump’s image and lies.

Some of the posters are really upset about private money investment into minority communities. Yet they don’t seem a bit upset about trump giving away billions in tax breaks and Federal Recovery funds to big businesses that , having plenty of cash and liquid investments, don’t really need financial help. All that while there are many millions of families in this country who are struggling to survive, low on food, behind on mortgage and rents, and on and on.

Can’t figure why some bitch about help for minorities bu to don’t care about Trump ripoffs from the national treasury.

Most violent, big cities in America have Democrat Mayor's. Those cities have been like this for Decades. Those Democrat mayor's must be stealing the money meant for those ghettos and taking bribes and funneling the money elsewhere. Democrats keep stealing that money, that's why the bad side of town never changes, the Democrat mayors and poverty, go hand and hand.

We rate this claim PARTLY FALSE based on our research. The information cited has some fundamental issues, notably that it uses out-of-date FBI data and ranks cities by crime rate when the FBI specifically warns against doing so. This glosses over the array of intensely local factors that influence crime. Violent crime, in particular, stems from a limited group of people in a limited area, so assuming that segment has a particular political bent based on the city at large — and that their violence stems from those politics — is a stretch at best.

It is true that large cities do have more crime. And they do have more Democrats — both in terms of general voting and local leadership. But it’s a classic example of correlation without evidence of causality

Racial Justice?

You want racial justice, help all poor communities! Not just the poor black communities. There are poor communities of all different races in the US. Help all of them.

I guess if all other poor communities started killing each other off like the black communities do they might get help.

We are the American race. Claiming racial injustice is just a "poor me" excuse for an handout.
