(New Stories Below & Update With Video) 8 New Cases of COVID-19 Confirmed in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...On Tuesday, July 7, 2020, Calaveras Public Health reported 8 additional cases of COVID-19 in the County. The total number of cases among Calaveras residents is now up to 61. “As we continue to receive reports and learn about more cases, it is more important than ever for the public to avoid group activities and gatherings that can spread COVID-19 infection,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. “We are seeing community spread, which means that the source of infection is unknown. It is best to act as if everyone you come in contact with has COVID-19,” said Dr. Kelaita.

The best ways to avoid exposure to the virus are to:
 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household
 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth if you are in public and around other people

“Stay home as much as possible. If you go out, practice physical distancing and wear a cloth face covering at all times when you are around others,” said Dr. Kelaita. “What we do now affects real people in our community whether we know that or not. We all share a collective responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19 and prevent a surge of COVID-19 in our community.”

Calaveras Public Health staff is investigating the new cases to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individuals. Close contacts may be contacted by the health department, assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness.

To date, Calaveras Public Health has reported sixty-one confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, nineteen cases have since recovered and forty-two remain active.

There have been no reported deaths to COVID-19 in Calaveras County at this time.

Also note the bigger group (and growing) are younger people. There are still those refusing to wear a mask and going around saying it only affects the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. Still not understanding it is about not giving the virus to others.

Most likely those that get it are those who don’t keep distance from others or don’t wear a mask. It would be good to know how many cases were not wearing masks routinely

There is a business in Angels that has an owner with Covid. The business was closed for the holiday but are open again! Aren't they supposed to quarantine? Bet they aren't telling their customer's that Daddy's got Covid, they might loose a buck, and that is the most important thing to them.

This is exactly the reason why the map and the keeping secrecy of big county names are etc. is kind of a bunch of BS. Nobody in this community knows who has what or where they are located so how can you distance yourself from those people if you never get the information to have the knowledge to do so

The County Public Health Officials were made aware of the Peddlers Faire prior to the event. They admitted that the event did not comply with state or county requirements and should not go forward. However they like our Supervisor chose to ignore the issue or to do the right thing, to much work.

Trump is trashing the CDC health recommendations for opening schools as "very tough" and "expensive." In his rush to open the economy in order to win re-election, he is going to get teachers and students killed. No empathy for his fellow Americans whatsoever.

This is dedicated to the person here who was telling me how wrong I was when I told him that cases are increasing among younger people. Here are the stats just here in Calaveras County. Out of 60 cases, only 18 of them are people over 65. Hope you enjoy eating some crow.

Age /Confirmed Cases
0-17 / 4
18-49 / 30
50-64 / 8
65+ / 18
